Default Supreme Court overturns federal ban on sports betting

The United States Supreme Court agreed on Monday to allow New Jersey's bid for sports betting at its casinos and racetracks, effectively ending prohibition on a $100 billion industry and striking down restrictions on wagering outside of Nevada.

"The legalization of sports gambling requires an important policy choice, but the choice is not ours to make," the Supreme Court announced. "Congress can regulate sports gambling directly, but if it elects not to do so, each State is free to act on its own."

The ruling could allow as many as 25 other states to seek similar allowances.

Well, it was nice to be the exclusive location for single-game sports betting, but I doubt this will be a huge hit to the economy. Vegas is still Vegas. Atlantic City and Biloxi haven't exactly killed Vegas.

I am guessing that the online (offshore) sports betting will take more of a hit... Why put your money at that kind of risk if the local 7-Eleven starts taking bets?

So - does this also impact those fantasy sports sites like draft kings, who say they are paying winners for putting the best fantasy teams together but the courts said were actually gambling? Seems like a few states where shutting those places down, but with this they may have an avenue to return.
