    I think that's what he's saying.

EDIT: you already know that. Didn’t refresh before answering.

Wilson (Cal, Minnesota, Iowa, Syracuse, Oregon State)
Romney (Arizona, ASU, Utah, Iowa State)
            Holker (Oregon State)
            Finau (Utah)
            Nasilai (Ok State)
            Pay (Utah)
            Opara (Utah)

            2019
Conover (ASU, Arizona, Bama, Northwestern, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Oregon State, Wazzu)
            Roberts (Utah)
            Unutoa (Cal, Iowa State)
            Freeland (Utah, Vandy)
            Fiatoa (Oregon State)
            Gunderson (Purdue)

Not great still and the dearth of skill players is concerning, but let's be real, that's always going to be an issue at BYU. We have to take flyers on kids and hope they develop and can make it 4 years at BYU. Also, some kids like Pay for example, committed early and shut down their recruiting. He likely would have picked up more offers. Also, mission kids typically, unless they're elite, don't get offers held for them.

Utah going to the P12 brought the rest of the conference to the state. You always had to compete with the blue bloods for the top kids. But now schools like Stanford and Washington are becoming a problem.

For a guy who prides himself on recruiting, this is a real problem with Kalani.

To show both sides, these are the kids with P5 offers he did land:

As you can see it gets worse and worse.

Campbell Barrington has an Arizona offer.

Tysen Lewis was getting a lot of love from UCLA. You also have to look at transfers and post-mission transfers as part of the recruiting classes.

                Tolutau (Utah, Wisconsin).
                Tukuafu (Utah)
Hoge (Notre Dame, a whole bunch of others).
                Collie (Wake Forest, Vandy)
                Kirby (Oregon, Wazzu, Utah)
                Tre Greene (Iowa State)
                Khryis Tonga (Utah)
                John Vaka (Oregon)
Christian Folau (Utah, Oregon State, others).

I'm unsure if Lee had another options when he transferred over.

Yup. He was famous for that look.

                    • I feel like we are doing significantly better on offense with Wilson but know the numbers probably dont show it. I just took an extremely oversimplified look at our offense vs opponents' defenses under each starting QB.

6 Mangum Starts: Opp season average total defense 352. BYU average total offense 306. Difference -46.

4 Wilson Starts: Opp season average total defense 411. BYU average total offense 388. Difference -23.

So we are doing significantly better with Wilson on average, but the defenses we have faced are also significantly worse. Huge revelation, I know. I am very excited about his future though.

BTW we have only gained more on offense than an opponent's total defense average in two games this year: Boyzee and Hawaii.

                            Yes, but...

I met him during my mission (BYU didn't go bowling that year and arranged a tour of Japanese Colleges with a game in Nagoya with some Japanese "All Stars" - it was a rout) When they visited Kyoto and Kobe, some missionaries translated for them. My comp at the time had been his Home Teaching Companion. So, we go to visit with him a bit, IIRC about 15-20 minutes. When he got home he sent my parents a note saying he had seen me and I was doing well. They were really surprised, since I hadn't bothered to tell them I had met him.

I also met Giff Nielson and Marc Wilson - Giff seemed really nice, Marc seemed a bit aloof.

I may be small, but I'm slow.

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to, "The United States of America ", for an amount of "up to and including my life - it's an honor."

                            • If I were running things (and there are many excellent reasons why I am not), when/if BYU is leading this Saturday, I'd try to get Mangum into the game as early as possible, certainly long before garbage time, and hope he could lead the team on a scoring drive. Assuming he succeeds, then during a subsequent drive I'd sub in Wilson (or if it's a blowout, Hall or whomever), and let the crowd give Tanner a standing O as he trots off the field. I have immense respect for the kid and hope he receives the recognition he deserves.

Edit: Just saw the Trib article that says essentially the same thing.

Kalani basically said that’s not going to happen. Spencer Linton suggested the same thing. And Kalani said “yeah we are just trying to win the game” he also said Tanner has been hurt the last few weeks.
