Definitely Democratic strongholds ... Grand County (Moab) is too.

Looks like Utah County and Box Elder County (both places where Cox leads) may still report more numbers tonight. Everyone else is done:

Looking pretty good for Cox right now. I'm optimistic.

I was surprised that Wasatch went for Huntsman. Of course, a lot of California transplants have been moving there.

I don't think that's accurate. According to the state's website, tracking precincts reporting is meaningless in this election:

The majority of counties in Utah now vote by mail. Because any batch of ballots could include voters from multiple precincts, it is no longer helpful to track the number of precincts reporting to know when all votes have been counted.
            https://electionresults.utah.gov/elections/ccr

If he's right, that would mean Salt Lake County has only reported about half the vote, but the total number of votes is already way more than they've had in a primary in a very long time (if not ever). I think turnout will be higher than normal, but it won't be that high. Not sure where he is getting his information (NYTimes maybe?), but my guess is he doesn't know what he's talking about.

WTF... The SLC website says only 1% of the results are in: https://results.enr.clarityelections...eb02.255596/#/

              That can't be right.

Ah, thank you for the clarification. Fox 13 says that the Cox csmoagin estimates there are a little more than 10,000 ballots left to be counted. If that claim is true, Cox is sitting pretty.

10,000 statewide or just in Salt Lake County? If it's statewide, he's already won. He's up by 2.6%, which isn't really that close. There's already been almost 400,000 ballots counted, which is really high for a primary. My guess is there aren't enough outstanding votes for Huntsman to make up the difference

I don't know if it's statewide or not. I could only find this from someone at fox 13 about it

                    • The Salt Lake Tribune can't help themselves:

Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox has tiny lead over former Gov. Jon Huntsman in early election results for Utah governor’s race
                      https://www.sltrib.com/news/politics...lection-polls/

2.5%+ is not a "tiny lead."

                      • Utah county announced they have 17,000 votes left to count. SLC has only half of its precincts reported so far. I think it might get very tight.

I don't know where that information is coming from. The numbers aren't being reported by precinct. All the ballots are directed to the County Clerk's office and counted there.

                          • So if no candidate gets 60% of the vote (which will most likely be the case) does the rank-choice voting (RCV) thing kick in? https://ballotpedia.org/Ranked-choice_voting_(RCV)

Yeah, I bet SL and UT counties realized that they are going to need to count all those ballets that were mailed in by dead democrats (and by the ballet harvesters) that recently switched parties so they could vote for Huntsman Jr. This may be why they are saying they have lots of votes left to count. If Huntsman wins this thing you can thank the democrats and all their dead relatives.

They didn’t use RCV this election. It is simple plurality.
