  • BYU's baseball now ranked 22 after a rocky start to the season

    http://byucougars.com/m-baseball/ran...ame-road-stand

The game against Arizona may prove something. Of course, if they lose games to UVU or SC, that will show something as well. The pitching has been inconsistent but the offense has been dynamic at times.

There are four teams in the conference that are competitive, Gonzaga, LMU, and USD. If BYU makes it through this stretch, then the three games at Spokane to end the regular season will determine seeding in the conference tourney. Provided the offense remains clicking and the pitching holds together, BYU might be making the NCAA tourney for the first time in a long while. Of course, that potential was true last year before the wheels came off due to injuries to the pitching staff and key offensive players.

Going 12-3 in April was a pleasant surprise. Their offense has really been clicking lately.

It has been the offense, not the defense or pitching that has brought BYU this far. Let's hope it holds on. It would be fun to see the team back in the mix again. BYU had quite a few games against ranked teams, and held their own against Oregon, but still lost. The victory and series win against then ranked USD was big and the game against UofA could be large.

And on cue, the team puts 23 (!) runs on the board tonight.

This year the team is absolutely horrible. I thought Coach Littlewood would turn this program around, but apparently I was mistaken. It is a dumpster fire.

The early season was awful. He still needs to recruit and prepare his pitchers better.

If you like hitting, watch BYU tonight and tomorrow against Santa Clara.

Last night BYU slugged three home runs to defeat the Broncos 9 to 3.

BYU is in the craziest game I have ever seen. It was down 14-9 in the bottom of the third inning and scored 8 runs. 2 and one half hours and entering the fourth inning.

I wonder what their average runs scored is over the last month or so. It's been pretty wild.

After the extra innings against Utah and BYU pitchers throwing batting practice to Portland, Littlewood had to go deep into his bullpen. Colton Shaver even got a turn on the mound. His first pitch was 94 mph. And he showed off a nasty hook striking out the second batter he faced on just 3 pitches. I was really impressed. He faced 4 batters and pitched a scoreless inning. Wild game.

But his lack of practice eventually sowed, as he was relieved by Marshall who won't be available for the rest of the series. The Utah game did a lot of damage to the staff. Lots of deep fly balls by BYU that could have been home runs.

The good news is Portland is pretty bad, so BYU's bats will probably be enough to win the next two games anyway.

Makes me worried if the team will ever get rested enough for the conference tournament. How tired are the arms? Last night indicated very tired.
