      Pro Chess League:

      https://www.chess.com/article/view/2...s-league-teams

The games have rapid time controls and are on Wednesdays. There's a combination of local talent and "free agent" titled players. Five of the top 10 players in the world are participating.

      What a great idea.

          Great.
"Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

Right now, IM Aman Hambleton is taking on all comers in blitz chess and either giving them material odds (losing queen in first 3 moves) or doing things like not being able to move his king at all (a check that he can't block with another piece is a loss), or being required to swap his rooks to their opposite starting positions on the board during the game without losing them. Pretty amazing.

Absolutely. On Wednesday they'll be playing in Belgium. Chess and the Tour de France will have to get me through until the Cougars take the field.

In case anyone wants to catch the Sunday games:

AI in chess takes a step forward--and backward. The best AI chess engine in the world makes piece sacrifices like Morphy, but then squeezes an opponent into zugzwang like Petrosian.

                            Fascinating stuff.
