Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostJust stating the facts, JL... Florida (largely Broward County) can't seem to hold an election without some sort of election shenanigans (as Frank would say). In 2016 it was Brenda Snipes illegally destroying ballots (which she was convicted of) and backroom stuffing of election ballots. This year it is mixing in bad provisionals ballots with good ones and not complying to court orders. And lets not even talk about the 2000 elections. If you are not seeing any evidence of election shenanigans going on then you are not looking hard enough.
But I get that you're just playing around, mimicking Trump and Hannity who don't give a crap about truth while accusing others of election fraud without any basis in fact.

In fact, a linked article beneath the one you provided reported that a federal judge found no fraud in an earlier case brought against the county earlier.

Sure, even more needs to be done, but the timing and content of Trump's lone tweet on the subject is akin to visiting a widow on the day of her husband's death and announcing he should have taken better care of himself. Even if true, he's still an asshole.

There were screw-ups that need to be addressed but I see these as very different from fraud or willfully trying to change election results.

A Century of Fire Suppression Is Why California Is in Flames
[...]
“We have 100 years of fire suppression that has led to this huge accumulation of fuel loads, just dead and downed debris from trees and plant material in our forests, and in our woodlands,” says Berleman. “As a result of that, our forests and woodlands are not healthy, and we’re getting more catastrophic fire behavior than we would otherwise.”

When is the last time you have seen a controlled burn? They use to do these but then they had one get away from them in Los Alamos, NM which resulted in 100's of homes lost. That is really the last time I have heard of the government doing controlled burns.

The UT 'bot is in rare form today. Careening the discussion from deadly wildfires to very questionable election fraud is impressive work. And then expressing sympathy to the displaced thousands with a Trumpesque attack on the state (and liberals!) is <chef's kiss>."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

Trump is sometimes so tone deaf and mean spirited that one wonders if The Onion hacked his Twitter feed. It's like aspergers is competing in his mind with turrets to see who can say the most unbelievable thing in 280 characters. Scoring also apparently awards exclamation points.
What really sucks is that Trump is right. The forest is mismanaged, and the jackass who said this is caused by years of fire suppression is an idiot. He's also guilty of playing the blame game just like Trump. The problem is that this isn't the time to say it. Every politician does it, using a crisis to 'call for common sense legislation' on this, that, or the other. Trump just does the hold my beer with his approach. Tragedies and crises are times when public figures should be offering support and leading recovery efforts. There's time for blame and policy change later.sigpic

And since I have the floor... I liked Jonah Goldberg's recent column in The National Review that rips on Trump for his one-way approach to loyalty (and defends Sessions, though Goldberg is no fan of the canned AG):
In Trump’s best-selling book, The Art of the Deal, there’s a fascinating passage about his mentor, infamous lawyer/fixer Roy Cohn. “He was a truly loyal guy,” Trump wrote. “It was a matter of honor with him.”
He went on: “Just compare that with all the hundreds of ‘respectable’ guys who make careers out of boasting about their uncompromising integrity but have absolutely no loyalty. . . . Roy was the sort of guy who’d be there at your hospital bed long after everyone else had bailed out, literally standing by you to the death.”
But it was a one-way street. When Cohn contracted AIDS, “Donald found out about it and just dropped him like a hot potato,” Susan Bell, Cohn’s longtime secretary, told Politico. “It was like night and day.” [I'd read elsewhere the Trump refused to visit Cohn in the hospital or the final weeks of Cohn's life]

And I concede that Trump is right, vaguely, that better policies and management are needed; it's just that he is so ignorant about pretty much every policy that he will never be the one to improve the situation. Indeed, for me a good first step would be to get rid of the chief executive of the entity that owns vastly more forests and fire-endangered lands than any other owner.

As Goldberg concludes: "Trump had him fired (he refused to even talk to Sessions personally) because at the end of the day, the only truly important thing in Trump world is Trump." I would welcome any evidence that the foregoing is incorrect."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"
