  • Amazon Prime Day

    Is today!

To be honest, I usually don't find much I like on Amazon Prime Day. But I did notice that the latest Amazon Fire TV box is going for $69.99 (normally $99.99). I've been meaning to pick one up and upgrade my Amazon Fire Stick. Plus I can throw Kodi on it, which is nice.

You don't want to save $3 on Velcro cable management straps?

Same. It's a clearance sale of crappy stuff that I don't need...although I still check to see if anything does pop up. I'd get Fire tablets for the kids but MJ would kill me if I did.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. What do you do with it? Have it read you the news?

Mostly play music. Ask it to play a song/album/playlist, and the Echo starts playing right away. Super fast and convenient.

It will play games with the kids too (20 guess, tells jokes, etc.).

              It's really a cool gadget.

We got one a couple months ago as a gift, sounds like we should set it up.

I picked up another Amazon FireTV box for a second TV. Apparently they are back ordered on these given it is not going to ship until August 10th.

There are some things I like about the FireTV box:

                  - Runs the SlingBox player app "natively". The AppleTV or Roku requires an iPad or Android device.

                  - Kodi runs without "jailbreaking" or "rooting".

                  - Alexia works pretty well. I still like Siri better. I am not sure why folks buy an Echo if you have "Hey Siri" around. With the new version of iOS Apple has opened up Siri to 3rd party developers so things should get really interesting.

                  - Runs the Playstation Vue app. I understand the Playstation Vue app is available for the Roku now. I have been tempted to cut the cable and go to something like Vue but haven't done it yet.

                  - Streams 4K content. The Roku 4/4K box streams it as well but the FireTV is less money (especially today).
"If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.
"I honestly believe saying someone is a smart lawyer is damning with faint praise. The smartest people become engineers and scientists." -SU.
"Yet I still see wisdom in that which Uncle Ted posts." -creek.

Sometimes smart TVs aren't as smart as you'd like them to be. for example, very few support HBOGo or Starz' streaming service.

lol. Not that I'm ashamed of being poor, (in fact I'm probably a little too proud of it) but I do have it on cable. I just don't watch it.

Interface. The one on my smartTV is just awful. Painful to use.
