I'm not. The last thing I think we should encourage right now is the notion that we should start amending the constitution for our particular pet projects.

That said, I am not in favor of the death penalty and would be pleased if each state chose to eliminate it.
    PLesa excuse the tpyos.

For my part, there needs to be a global change in the perception of deadly force. Police have been given too much leeway when suspects are killed, and extremely few who are guilty of misconduct are prosecuted for it.

I found this podcast very informative:

It wouldn’t take a constitutional amendment if Congress is on board. Congress could withhold federal funding from states that authorize the death penalty, or condition it on repeal of existing death penalty laws.

It worked with the drinking age ... no reason to expect it wouldn’t work with the death penalty.

Buttigieg: 'Life Begins When A Person Registers As A Democrat'

Mayor Pete Buttigieg has come under fire after claiming that life only begins when you register as a Democrat.

"Many conservative 'Christians' have bought into this lie that life begins at conception," Buttigieg said during a radio interview. "This flies in the face of basic biology, which teaches us that life begins when you register as a Democrat."

Buttigieg went on to say that women can kill their children all the way up until the point when they choose to register as a Democrat since they are not humans up until that "miraculous moment."

"There’s a lot of parts of the Bible that talk about how life begins with that first vote you cast," he went on. "Even that is something that we can interpret differently from those dumb, backward Christians who insist on a literal, biological definition of life. But most sensible Americans can get on board with the idea of, 'I might draw the line at voting for a far-left candidate, you might draw the line at the point when that first registration card is sent in.'"

"The important thing is that we arbitrarily declare when a person becomes a person," he added.

Buttigieg also made the claim that a person still continues to be a living, breathing person and a valued member of the Democratic party long after they die.

I am sure glad that Major Pete cleared up his previous comments on this subject.

Withhold federal funding of what? Generally, the Supreme Court has presented the idea that grant conditions must be related to the project or program for which the conditions apply. I don't believe states receive much if any funding related to prisons, so I think it would be difficult to promote grant conditions related to the death penalty that would pass constitutional muster.

There are 29 death penalty states. Just another ingenious tactic by the Dems to hand the election to The Dump.
    Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

"They done studies, you know... Three industries (including "industry") are responsible for 70%!"

Elizabeth Warren Issues Misleading Claim That Three Industries Are Responsible for 70 Percent of Carbon Pollution

One of those industries is just…“industry.”

Elizabeth Warren claims three industries are responsible for 70 percent of carbon pollution. One of those industries is…"industry."

Any time a politician makes an argument using a single, simple statistic, it is worth investigating its origins. That is especially true when that politician is Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D–Mass.).

Take, for example, her claim at last week's CNN town hall on climate change that 70 percent of airborne carbon pollution comes from three industries. Warren made this argument in response to a question about whether the government should tell people which lightbulbs they have to use.

"This is exactly what the fossil fuel industry hopes we're all talking about," she said. "They want to be able to stir up a lot of controversy around your lightbulbs, straws, and cheeseburgers when 70% of the pollution of the carbon that we're throwing into the air comes from three industries." Because this is 2019, Warren also posted the claim on Instagram.

So, which three industries are to blame? The helpful fact-checkers at Politifact looked into this question and found the source of Warren's statistic.

It does not show that three industries are to blame.

Instead, Warren's claim comes from an Environmental Protection Agency's document stating that more than 70 percent of greenhouse gas emissions can be traced to three sources. The first is "transportation," which accounts for about 29 percent of emissions. The second is "electricity production," which accounts for about 27 percent.

You may have noticed that these are both activities, not industries.

These Dem debate quotes are great. I feel bad for Booker though. The artist clearly has it out for him.

LOL... Did Biden just say Paul Manafort should be released? I am sure that would go over well with the Dems.

Don't worry our elections won't go smoothly:

FEC can't enforce election laws right now, because of Mitch McConnell’s obstruction
After a GOP appointee quits — and Mitch won't replace him — Federal Election Commission literally can't do its job

The Federal Election Commission will effectively shut down after a Republican appointee resigned, leaving the panel without a legally-required four-member quorum.

Republican appointee Matthew Petersen, who was nominated to be a federal judge by President Trump before withdrawing after being unable to answer basic legal questions, announced his resignation Monday.

The move comes days after Petersen and the lone other Republican on the panel blocked the FEC from investigating a complaint alleging that Russian operatives may have illegally funneled money to the Trump campaign through the NRA.

With Petersen out, the six-member panel is down to just three members, one short of the four members they need to take any official action.

“Without a quorum, certain Commission activities will not take place. For example, the Commission will not be able to hold meetings, initiate audits, vote on enforcement matters, issue advisory opinions, or engage in rulemakings,” Republican commissioner Caroline Hunter said in a statement Monday.

    Bernie wants nationwide rent control...

it works so well in San Fran.

Bernie Sanders' Housing Plan Calls for $2.5 Trillion in New Spending and Nationwide Rent Control

The socialist presidential candidate wants the federal government to take the lead in regulating rental prices and building new rental housing.
    [...]
Rent control has long been derided by economists as a well-intentioned policy that comes with a host of unintended consequences: Limiting the return developers can make on new housing construction disincentivizes them from building more units. Some landlords, unable to pass on the costs of repairs or renovations to tenants, let their buildings deteriorate. Others might convert their regulated rental units into more expensive condominiums that can be sold at any price, reducing the overall supply of rental housing.

That's exactly what happened in San Francisco following an expansion of rent control in the 1990s, according to a recent study published in the journal American Economic Review. Building owners took their units off the rental market, resulting in citywide rent increases and increasing gentrification.

Housing investment has boomed in places like Toronto and Cambridge, Massachusetts, after those localities repealed their own rent control laws.

Sanders is also calling for $2.5 trillion in new housing spending over 10 years that will be paid for by a wealth tax on the top 0.1 percent of families.

Robert O'Rourke did a Reddit AMA. The questions were predictably awesome

What makes you qualified to even run for president? You're a wealthy white guy who got handed everything, escaped punishment for a serious criminal act, and then lost an election to the least popular senator in America despite tens of millions in outside funding.
You've never done well in national polling despite a glowing media painting you as a Kennedy like figure, and you've never won a national or statewide election.

Is there a plan for victory beyond saying fuck a lot?

Hi Beto, thanks for stopping by. As we all know you were pretty active in the early hacktivist community, as well as moonlighting as an amateur poet. At some point are you planning to livestream a reading of your seminal work of art, “The Song of the Cow”? I feel that ass waxing and butt-shining are two very relevant issues many politicians are faced with daily in the modern political arena. If you had any insight on the future of cyber security in American voting we would be interested to hear about that as well, but the poetry is the priority. Again, thank you for your time and say hi to Texas for me.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

His "The Song of the Dead Cow" is a classic.

On how he is going to take your AR-15, AK-47:
betoorourke: Americans will comply with the law.
What happens when they don't comply though?
NY SAFE Act has seen about 4% compliance with Assault Weapons Registration.
CA Assault Weapons Registration has seen only 3% compliance
New Jersey has seen essentially 0% compliance with their magazine ban.
When arguably the most left leaning states in the country cannot get any serious level of compliance with these laws, how do you imagine it will go better for you nationwide when including all the other states with serious gun cultures?
    Question for Skateboard Jesus
Can you do a kick flip?
    betoorourke: Nope
    0/10 will not vote for.

Hi Beto, since you definitely won’t become president, what do you plan to do after the election is over?
SomeoneElse: Learn how to do a kickflip.
