  • Contemporary Irish films for St. Paddy's day.

Calvary: "After he is threatened during a confession, a good-natured priest must battle the dark forces closing in around him."
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2234003/?ref_=nv_sr_1

The Hallow: "A family who moved into a remote mill house in Ireland finds themselves in a fight for survival with demonic creatures living in the woods."
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2474976/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

Ondine: "An Irish fisherman discovers a woman in his fishing net whom his precocious daughter believes to be a selfie."

The Canal: "When he finds out the home he shares with his wife and son was the scene of a ghastly turn-of-the-century murder, David dismisses it as ancient history. That is, until the sinister history ripples into the present and casts a shadow over life as he knows it."
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2517658/...?ref_=tt_ov_pl

Five Minutes of Heaven "The story of former UVF member Alistair Little. Twenty-five years after Little killed Joe Griffen's brother, the media arrange an auspicious meeting between the two."

Brooklyn (a young Irish immigrant adjusts to the States, with much of the movie taking place in Ireland) is an outstanding movie and even if it doesn't appeal to some of the menfolk here, they'll rack up some major points with their female counterparts if they view it with them.

In the Name of the Father is an all-time great.

I really enjoyed The Guard and Waking Ned Divine.

                A few I would add:

Bloody Sunday (the James Nesbitt film)
In Bruges (set in Bruges but stars Irishmen)
Into the West (kids steal a horse they think is inhabited by their dead mother's spirit -- sounds weird but it's good)
The Secret of Roan Inish (girl thinks her disappeared brother is being raise by selkies)
The Dead (older and less than feature length, but great)

Very good ones. I forgot to add Omagh.

I'd do the Departed and Boondock Saints. Boondock Saints is kinda dumb but it's a fun vibe.
