Some good news on the prion-disease research front: http://news.meta.com/2016/01/20/23an...ously-thought/

However, through their vast study, the authors identified three individuals who carried a single functional copy of the PRNP gene, and therefore produced only half the amount ofPRNP-coded proteins. These three people were healthy and suffered no apparent PRNPdiseases, even after reaching an advanced age. These results provide the first evidence that prion reduction treatments would not cause negative side effects, at least in the instance when the level of these proteins is reduced to 50% of their normal amount.Their study makes this treatment, which could eventually save Sonya’s life along with other prion disease sufferers, one step closer to implementation.

What will you tell on the gene silencing treatment method when RNA or DNA are used for “turning off” a gene? Of course, the idea is experimental but many think it's very promising.
