The crux of what has traumatized us about CUF/CG is that we thought they were our friends. And their identity as BYU fans turned out to be the most important thing to them. What empty lives! What a damning indictment of the LDS Church!

I am 100% Ok with people protesting whatever they like. I am just surprised that the little dude generates that much commotion.

Reed College reached peak Wokeness and the freshmen, especially ones from foreign countries who know this protesting is just grandstanding bullshit, decided they weren't getting into debt $50k per year so that they can watch a bunch of degenerate virgins lead an endless protest of classroom lectures.

Notice how all but one or two of the protesters in the classroom are white and the people sick of their shit, aside from the foreign students, are the minority students.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Reed was in the last area of my mission. The mission had a long standing rule prohibiting missionaries from going on campus.

(Those meetings ended when RAR members stopped coming; they complained of being “forced to sit in hours of fruitless meetings listening to full-grown adults cry about Aristotle.”)
Not sure which would be more amusing:

    (i) That the professors' sincere devotion to Aristotle and holding meetings put the lie to the students' "efforts" (showing them to be more interested in protesting than in anything else) or

(ii) That the professors deliberately bored the students' will to persevere out them.

Colleges and universities usually have a "non-harassment" policy that prohibits anyone from engaging in intimidating communication, behavior, etc. Why were the RAR protesters not subjected to school discipline for violating policy? Why didn't the faculty members get AAUP involved and maybe file a grievance?

Students who are not enrolled in a class regularly walk in, disrupt the class, have signs suggesting the professor has ties to white supremacy, shout over the tops of people, and all administrators do is compromise with these people?

    Ridiculous.

The Marist College athletic department changed the name of its mascot from 'Shooter' to 'Frankie' because of ongoing gun violence in the country and the stigma attached to the term 'shooter.'
I wonder what IPU says about this change.

University TA ‘Censured’ After Playing A Clip From A Debate About Transgender Pronouns
On November 1, Shepherd, who teaches a "language use and writing skills component" tutorial for a larger communications class at Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario, Canada, played a clip in which University of Toronto professor, Jordan Peterson, debates Nicholas Matte over gender pronouns on the Canadian TV show, "The Agenda."

In the clip, Peterson argues against what he calls "compelled speech" regarding transgender pronouns like "zir" and "xe."

According to Shepherd, she took a completely neutral stance, neither condemning nor applauding Peterson’s position. However, one or more of her approximately 48 students filed a complaint with the school. As a result, Shepherd was censured, and brought in for a meeting with course professor, Dr. Nathan Rambukkana, Dr. Herbert Pimlott, and Adria Joel, Acting Manager of Gendered Violence and Sexual Assault Prevention and Support at the Diversity and Equity Office.

One of the grandest benefits of the enlightenment was the realization that our moral sense must be based on the welfare of living individuals, not on their immortal souls. Honest and passionate folks can strongly disagree regarding spiritual matters, so it's imperative that we not allow such considerations to infringe on the real happiness of real people.

That's a crazy story, made worse (in my opinion) by the fact that Ontario has included "gendered violence" in the Canadian Human Rights Code.

Here's the audio from the TA's meeting with her superiors.

Wow. I feel for that TA. I cannot believe that they are actually telling her she did something wrong. It amazes me that it is this same class of intellectual elitists that deride mormonism for being closed-minded and exclusive. Their approach here is shocking both for being anathema to the notion fo a liberal education as well as for its own pretzel logic. Are they trying to educate people, to make them independent thinkers capable of critical thought (and the bozo mis-used the idea of introducing something 'critically') or are they running a day care with blankies for happy nap time?

Wuap, JL, SIEQ, Solon and any others that are in that academic area: is this the environment in which you exist? DO you think this is as wrongheaded as it seems to me? Homeschooling would be better than having to put up with those dopes.

How does presenting the argument without comment violate that code? It does not violate it as he quoted it, which is what I was relying on. ALthough I would obviously need to defer to your experience and knowledge on this topic.

I suppose dispensing with First Amendment rights is possible, at least on college campuses, after the glee in which colleges across the country started up their kangaroo courts, due process concerns be damned, in response to the Obama administration's "Dear Colleague" letter. Who needs freedom of speech when we need to worry about the 1 in 10,000 people that are confused about their gender who also happen to be oversensitive assholes?
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”
