Disney's CEO said a couple days ago that ESPN could get into the direct to consumers model but it would happen 5+ years from now. 5 years is an eternity especially with ESPN losing ~3 million subscribers in the last year.

Orrin Hatch asks DirecTV to think of the children, carry the Pac-12 network.

Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Oregon), Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), and Sen. Dean Heller (R-Nevada) signed a letter aimed at the Chairman of AT&T and the President of the Pac-12 Networks, directing the two sides to craft an agreement that could help four million citizens in seven states see their college football teams play this season.

Wrote the Senators: "Beyond the burden and frustration placed on fans in our states who are not able to watch their favorite teams compete, we are also increasingly concerned about the potential long-term damage to our states' flagship universities, which count on the Pac-12 Networks to promote the university, its student-athletes and its athletics programs."
