This is a gross oversimplification. I don’t fully disagree, but it’s not a strong argument.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

It's an absurd distinction. There are many things protected in the bill of rights that are based on choice, not genetics.

The fact that YOU equate the LDS church's doctrine/policy to discrimination does not mean that it constitutes an illegal discrimination and, if anything, underscores the importance of the analytical starting point that he is urging. But you know all this. It seems lijke you might just be looking for another chance to complain about the church.
    Bingo.

And to flat out state that religions aren’t being discriminated against is to deny history, specifically Mormon history. Mormons have been discriminated against in the past. It’s important to make sure it never happens again.
Yes Mormons have been discriminated against in the past. It is also a long ago past. I support protecting the religious freedom of Mormons. Let's be honest here though, this is entirely about making sure the LDS church gets to continue to engage in discriminatory behavior against homosexuals without any repercussions and advocate for discriminatory laws against homosexuals without repercussions. It just gets packaged as "religious freedom" just like it was packaged as a battle between "marriage equity" and "traditional marriage."

Compare it to those rights. Compare it to the right to free speech. Compare it to rights to vote. Compare it to any number of rights that are not choices. The LDS church doesn't get to speak of the rights of homosexuals in invoking their religious freedom rights when they actively advocated and spent millions of dollars seeking to deny rights to them. I'm sure you would just be hunky dory if an LGBTQ group tried to deny you the right to marry because you are LDS then a few years later when they rightfully lost, talked about how their rights need to be protected just like yours.
The crux of what has traumatized us about CUF/CG is that we thought they were our friends. And their identity as BYU fans turned out to be the most important thing to them. What empty lives! What a damning indictment of the LDS Church!

Funk, you aren't very good at making these arguments.

Actually I'd feel like they were making progress of they did that. Moving away from dumb arguments should be applauded, not punished.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.
