President Smartt has brought in the elders who were serving in the islands and replaced them with sisters. That was an inspired move
      Inspired, but by whom?
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Reading that article, I'm kind of surprised there are charges. Nobody quoted in the article, including the police sgt., seems to give a shit.

            • So I did an image search for Smartt and found a blog entry from a senior missionary from his mission. Here's a pretty great quote from the first impression this senior missionary had of his new leader:

He was so frustrated with trying to work with the LIAT airline dysfunctionality after trying for three weeks to get on a flight to St Kitts, that he has sent for his airplane. He said he will now be able to leave San Juan after breakfast, travel to any of the islands, and be back to the office for lunch.

Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

              • Another gem from that blog:

President Smartt has brought in the elders who were serving in the islands and replaced them with sisters. That was an inspired move, but the vehicle that the elders had been driving was given to the old couple being sent to Nevis (us), which left the sisters without wheels.
Yes, I kind of took that quote out of context. I believe he eventually gave a car to the sisters serving out on a remote island.

                        What a sweet deal!
"Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."
