I'm assigned to teach a combined priesthood lesson on Elder Robbins' conference talk, Which Way do You Face. I think I'll begin with a rebuke of everyone who has ever disagreed with their leaders and then spend the rest of the time hammering on the need for blind obedience. That is, after all, what the church wants from its members, so there's no point in beating around the bush.sigpic

Not much room for discussion once that's on the table.

I'm not going to be at church this Sunday, and I find it extremely difficult to find a replacement teacher for my GD class. So I'm going in a new direction. My lesson is on the Sermon on the Mount, so I've assembled 5 video vignettes. The first one is the depiction of Christ teaching the Beatitudes by the shores of Galilee, and the subsequent 4 are modern mormon messages. After each Mormon message, I've asked a class member to hold a 5 minute discussion relating their video to some teaching within the Beatitudes. Although I can't get someone to teach the entire class, I can get 4 of them to teach for 5 minutes each. The videos average from 1:50 to 4:55 and the only prep is to review their video clip. (I sent everyone the link last night). I've downloaded the video clips onto a thumb drive, and I'll have my husband wheel the TV into the classroom and press play. I even have a quick video of myself explaining that I am out for the day, but that these other people will each take 5 minutes to cover modern day interpretations of the Beatitudes. The videos are on the mem stick in order, so my husband only needs to pause after each clip.
I hope it works out ok. The last video clip will be faciliated by a long time high councilman, so he's used to adjusting his presentation for time variation. If this works, I may use this format again.
Here are the videos I will be using:
