So what you're saying is the President should have said Justin Bieber instead of the Jonas brothers. Gotcha.

San Francisco architect Lee Hammack says he and his wife, JoEllen Brothers, are “cradle Democrats.” They have donated to the liberal group Organizing for America and worked the phone banks a year ago for President Obama’s re-election.

Since 1995, Hammack and Brothers have received their health coverage from Kaiser Permanente, where Brothers worked until 2009 as a dietician and diabetes educator. “We’ve both been in very good health all of our lives – exercise, don’t smoke, drink lightly, healthy weight, no health issues, and so on,” Hammack told me.

The couple — Lee, 60, and JoEllen, 59 — have been paying $550 a month for their health coverage — a plan that offers solid coverage, not one of the skimpy plans Obama has criticized. But recently, Kaiser informed them the plan would be canceled at the end of the year because it did not meet the requirements of the Affordable Care Act. The couple would need to find another one. The cost would be around double what they pay now, but the benefits would be worse.

“From all of the sob stories I’ve heard and read, ours is the most extreme,” Lee told me in an email last week.

Wow talk about self absorbed. This goes to show that liberals are cool and all about helping others and spreading the wealth around until they realize how it actually impacts them.

If Warren Buffet can get everyone to pay 10% more in income tax he feels so good about himself. Sure maybe it costs him an extra $5-10 million a year that won't be added to his $50 billion estate. I would love to hear Warren's feeling on not being able to shelter his fortune by giving it to charity. He should have to give it to the government and let them take care of people. Why should Bill Gates and he decide who to help. Why should the money go to foreign countries. Don't we have enough people in need right here in the good ole USA?

We have Barbara Streishand who want us all to take care of the environment, she just thinks she deserves special treatment when it comes to her property.

As long as these libs thought the nasty ole Insurance companies were going to get nailed, they were quite happy to again suckle the poor and needy with others money. This shouldn't have happened to this couple. They too are having to foot the bill in a big way to help all those people they want helped.

While it is funny because it feeds our stereotypes of liberals, I will say this much in favor of this flawed bill, at least the market dynamics that it does include forces us to actually pay for some of the health care we dole out. If it was a single payer I doubt anyone would pay for it. It is a good reminder that most of the income in this country resides in the middle class and for the US to extend benefits to others the place from whence the money will come will be the place from whence the money is at. You can quote me on that and perhaps it might lead to your boys wanting to use your season tickets!

                • Actually, I think it's due more to their age group than anything else. They are at the exact age (60) where the subsidies for married couples are $8,000 lower than the subsidies for singles living together. I think Ted linked the chart in the Obamacare thread.

Even now they think it can be resolved by just writing to Nancy Pelosi. Who did they think was going to pay for all of this? These people always think there's some limitless well from which to draw money for these kinds of things. They feel enlightened because they vote for the people that promise to solve various societal ills using other peoples' money.

The mindset is encapsulate by Cali's revolutionary thought that employers can always find more room in their budget to pay for health insurance for their employees. It's almost like they're not aware that businesses always (at least well run ones) are always looking for fat to trim from their expenses.

When mindlessly voting for Obama like others in their San Francisco peer groups, the furthest thing from their minds was how Obamacare was going to be paid for and how it would be executed. All that mattered to them was that it was passed and they wanted to feel good about themselves for supporting it.

Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

What would be the most funny, if it wasn't so gross, is that of all the sob stories they've heard or read, they think theirs is the most extreme.

Yes, the government will fix this just like they did in our president's home state...
The early findings of an ongoing review of the Illinois Medicaid program revealed that half the people enrolled weren’t even eligible.

The state insisted it’s not that bad but Medicaid is on the federal government’s own list of programs at high risk of waste and abuse.

Now, a review of the Illinois Medicaid program confirms massive waste and fraud.

A review was ordered more than a year ago-- because of concerns about waste and abuse. So far, the state says reviewers have examined roughly 712-thousand people enrolled in Medicaid, and found that 357-thousand, or about half of them shouldn't have received benefits. After further review, the state decided that the percentage of people who didn't qualify was actually about one out of four.

"It says that we've had a system that is dysfunctional. Once people got on the rolls, there wasn't the will or the means to get them off,” said Senator Bill Haines of Alton.

A state spokesman insists that the percentage of unqualified recipients will continue to drop dramatically as the review continues because the beginning of the process focused on the people that were most likely to be unqualified for those benefits. But regardless of how it ends, critics say it's proof that Illinois has done a poor job of protecting tax payers money.

“Illinois one of the most miss-managed states in country-- lists of reasons-- findings shouldn't surprise anyone,” said Ted Dabrowski.

                          • Obama's annus horribilis wasn't over, of course.
Some of this is just bad luck. But some of Obama's difficulties with Congress go back to the campaign he conducted in 2012 and were predicted a year ago by William Galston, Clinton's top domestic-policy adviser in his first term. Writing just days before the election, Galston warned that Obama would "enter his second term holding a relatively weak hand." He lamented that Obama was more focused on tearing down his rival than building a mandate for action in the second term. Today, Galston asks National Journal, "What kind of forward thrust did the president get out of the 2012 campaign?" The answer, he says, is "almost nothing." And that, he adds, allows side controversies to loom larger. "The absence of a clearly etched and publicly supported second-term agenda creates a kind of political vacuum into which problems can surge."

Democratic strategist James Carville said Monday in light of President Barack Obama’s declining poll numbers, maybe he should take a page from an infamous Canadian mayor.

“I think the best thing he can do is take a toke on the mayor of Toronto’s crack pipe, because his numbers are about 48,” Carville joked on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” referring to Rob Ford, who has admitted smoking crack.

                              • As you dig into your Butterball with all the trimmings this Thanksgiving, remember that millions of famished schoolkids around America may be forced to forgo classic turkey — and chow down instead on vegan black-bean patties and organic locavore quinoa salad.

On Nov. 1, sizable cuts were gouged into the federal food-stamp program (or, as it’s now called, SNAP, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), which feeds 47.6 million people, or nearly one in six Americans. In the city, 1.9 million folks get the bulk of their Jell-O and Campbell’s Soup from stamps.

                                Those heartless Republicans! Oh wait...

But news has spread among the poor, like leafy green vegetables, that it wasn’t heartless Republicans who triggered the cuts.

Rather, some of the food-stamp cash was snatched to pay for Michelle Obama’s pet project, Let’s Move. What?

It’s come to this. Some 76 million meals a year will vanish from this city — poof! — partly because the president diverted money from SNAP to the first lady’s signature program, part of her Let’s Move anti-obesity initiative — the bean-sprout-heavy, $4.5 billion Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act.

Well, at least Michelle Obama came up with some great US postage stamps to help motivate kids:

As printed, each stamp includes an illustration of a different child engaged in one of 15 activities, in addition to a short phrase or descriptive word in white text and an action verb in dark blue text. But sometimes, when you move, you get hurt.

I spoke to Roy Betts, a spokesman for the United States Postal Service, who confirmed that the agency has halted the Just Move stamps. Why? Because, according to Linn’s Stamp News, of those 15 active children, three were deemed to be moving in ways that could prove detrimental to their health: skateboarding without kneepads, cannonballing into the water, and doing a headstand without a helmet.
