Brett Kavanaugh Will Be Confirmed, and Liberals Should Blame Michael Avenatti

Sens. Susan Collins (R–Maine) and Joe Manchin (D–W.Va.) announced on Friday they would vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh, which effectively means the judge will be joining the Supreme Court despite multiple allegations of sexual assault.

Democrats, the left, and various other anti-Kavanaugh persons can thank attorney Michael Avenatti for this outcome, at least in part.

The spotlight-stealing lawyer, who also represented Stormy Daniels, is responsible for drawing the media's attention to Julie Swetnick, an alleged victim of Kavanaugh who told an inconsistent and unpersuasive story. Swetnick's wild accusation provided cover for fence-sitting senators to overlook the more plausible allegation levelled by psychology professor Christine Blasey Ford, and to declare that Kavanaugh was being subjected to false smears.

Indeed, in her speech announcing her decision to vote for Kavanaugh, Collins explicitly made note of Swetnick's allegation, which she described as "outlandish."

Yes, there's ample evidence of that just this morning.

It’s a non issue. America overwhelming supports gay rights. The SCOTUS won’t overturn Obergefell.

                  • So I don't want to dive too far into this as I think likely everyone is sick of this issue, but maybe a few of you can explain this:
How *is* this different from a job interview for a very selective and desired position?
I'm guessing anyone but CMBF would put the lower limit probability of Ford telling the truth (funny I have to define this hear, but let's define that as "a decent description of what actually happened") at say, 10%? I think any lower than that and you're not really looking at this very objectively (just as I'd say that higher than 90% would indicate you don't have a very good grasp of how fallible human memory is). Isn't even a 10% chance of putting a sexual assault on the Supreme Court a little high, especially when you have a dozen Gorsuch's in the wings? It's not like you can't find less divisive candidates.
I'm torn on this a little because I really don't want to set a precedent for the kind of crap that Feinstein pulled (I can't believe that she's getting a pass on this--she should lose her job), but at the same time, this guy's tainted, no matter what the truth is.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

They won't overturn it but they will limit protections based on sexual orientation and allow discrimination to continue.

Doubt it. Again, gay rights are not like abortion rights. The overwhelming majority of Americans favor gay rights. It would be political suicide for the republicans if the conservative judges irrationally limit those rights.

Abortion on the other hand, is still hotly contested and has never won an overwhelming majority of supporters.
