      Fantastic.
This is what annoys me the most. This is simply not the election place social issues at the forefront.

American voters want someone with executive chops who understands the tough decision-making process of balancing a budget? Santorum has never balanced a budget and never had to make an executive decision.

American voters want someone who is enough of an outsider that he/she can come into Washington and tackle the corrupt nexus of money, influence and policy that plagues the public body? Rick Santorum not only fed on earmarks while he was in office, he has stayed at the trough as a lobbyist since leaving office and has had no meaningful career outside of Washington DC.

Americans want a guy who put jobs and the economy ahead of allegiance to special interest? Santorum voted against the Right to Work law in Pennsylvania and has no defense other than that he was bought out by local interests.

Mormon and the above<<<<<<<not mormon. The voters have spoken.
One of the grandest benefits of the enlightenment was the realization that our moral sense must be based on the welfare of living individuals, not on their immortal souls. Honest and passionate folks can strongly disagree regarding spiritual matters, so it's imperative that we not allow such considerations to infringe on the real happiness of real people.

        • Romney could crush Santorum if he wanted to do it, but Romney is too nice to do it and needs to direct his attacks at Newt. Once Newt is gone, people Newt supporters will side with Romney.

At least that's what I think.

          • So I found out on the news that Rick Santorum was pretty much in my backyard today. Sneaky b*tard.

Yikes. I've never been happier to have skipped the election coverage for an evening.

No offense, but I think you are wrong. Newt's bloc breaks to Santorum and vice versa. Newt and Santorum are both clowns. They are presently splitting the clown vote.

I agree il Pad is wrong. Anyone supporting Newt in the primary is a moron and these morons aren't going to Romney. Romney has torched that bridge because of the kind of guy and candidate Newt Gingrich is, I don't think there was any other way to do it. He had to be tough with Gingrich and it pissed off the morans.

The thing about these primaries this year and in the last year, it lays bare all the morans that vote for conservatives/ the GOP. It makes me uncomfortable being associated with them. It makes it easy to understand why Democrats/Libs loath people in the "flyover states." I think engaging the religious right has been a deal with the devil. The reason being is that it has driven people that would otherwise be fiscally conservative/moderate into the Democratic Party. As tends to happen, once people adopt a political team they also adopt all of the positions, and the Republican party has been losing these people. The religious right wants big government conservatism. And I worry that they're increasingly crowding out someone like Romney who, I think, would be a fiscal conservative and make inroads for the Republican party into, say, the suburbs of places like Philadelphia, Detroit, etc.

The George W. Bush part of the political spectrum means razor thin majorities and increasing marginalization of the single most politically popular part of the GOP's platform (even though, in reality, it doesn't live the ideal) -- fiscal conservatism. People in the Northeast and West Coast don't have any need for a party that is only socially conservative, I do think a lot of them would support fiscal conservatism, however.

Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I would agree with this and go one step further.

I think there is a good chunk of Santorum supporters that couldn't bring themselves to vote for Newt and would support Romney. Newt supporters on the other hand would most likely go to Santorum.
