Is that just drywall? Just spackle it up and paint it.

And, of course, sand it before painting.

On second thought, is that concrete? It would be a weird place for drywall. Looks like a counter of some kind?

Pic is sideways. It's an archway. You can see the hinges for a door that collided with the archway when a certain toddler decided to tremor the doorstop.

So like I said, put some mud on it and paint it. You only need a 1-2 month fix for it if you are selling the house.

I also feel like I'm being punked. Is there a thread for basic home repairs that my wife could even do without my help?

No offense, I hope, but I wouldnt use mud. Its not as stable dimensionally as a filler. Use one of the lightweight fillers and you can sculpt it and it will not shrink or change. Plus it tends to take paint a little better than thick mud, which is very thirsty.
                  PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Shrink? The hole is like 2mm deep.

                      You're so metric!

Suit yourself. Mud isnt meant to patch and there is a reason why. Filler is dimensionally stable and will hold contours, etc., better. But if you like mud, then party on.

Well, I did first say "spackle" but then used mud in general. This isn't really a repair job. It's touch up. He could use chewed gum and he'd be fine for the time it takes to sell the home.

Or toothpaste, which actualy works pretty well for pin holes and such.

Btw, spackle is also a little different. For stuff like this damage I prefer a polymer type filler, although spackle is fine too, of course. I agree it isn't that big of a deal, but if I was trying to match that curve, I would prefer a filler.

Maybe you could post a picture of your favorite filler
