I predict that Elder Richard G Scott will tell you and I to, "Come back."
I told him he was a goddamn Nazi Stormtrooper.

I think it is unusual, actually. You didnt spend much time on CG, but Conference weekend was typically one of the busiest weekends on the board. There was always a lot of posting/controversy/indignation/offense/defense/healing going on. That seems to have carried over to CUF.

Given your propensity for foul language, I had no concern that you would be offended, though!

Me, on the other hand...I learned long ago that I do not have the attention span for a 2 hour session, much less 5 of them over 2 days. It is way more effective for me to read the talks afterwards. Takes much less time overall and I can actually focus on one talk.

Fall Conference is especially bad because there are so many football games on Saturday. So I stopped pretending a few years ago and my Conference Weekends have been great ever since!

I am probably in the minority, I know, but I find conference weekend to be a bullet to the brain. Others speak of how "excited" they are for conference. I find it so difficult to get amped for it. One of the most boring events of the year for me. Sorry, just being honest.
I agree with you on how boring it can be.

One way to look at it though: What other time of the year can you sneak in 5 two hour naps?

Ironic that UtahDan will watch more conference than I will this weekend.
I just started a 3,000 piece puzzle. It's good timing because then I can have conference playing in the background while I do some mindless, but enjoyable, activity.

This is a good idea, actually. I'm going to buy a puzzle for Sunday and try to solve it with the Puffy Check. We can have conference on in the background. Except during the raiders game. Or other NFL games.

Based on the responses so far in this thread, I'll go ahead and disagree.

As far as my "propensity for foul language" - whether you're just busting my chops or being serious, that comment hit home. I don't like that I swear from time to time, so consider this a turning point in that regard. No more foul language from this poster!

It should be noted I didn't give a time frame for abstaining from foul language.

Like Smokey, I am actually a little surprised at the tone in this thread. Is this just a religious case of "all politics is local" and the heirarchy of the church is simply to distant to have any impact on our daily lives, or do members honestly not care what the brethern have to say?

And that's the main attraction for me. No meetings at the ward house! Not just the 3-hour block but no other leadership or committee meetings - no fast offerings to collect and count. None! I have extra time with the family. I have a 2-day weekend like all the gentiles. I can record conference and watch it when I want - can watch it in my pajamas if I so choose. I wish they held General Conference every month just for that reason alone.

I think it is more that they are not interested in sitting for 5 two hour sessions. I am very interested to know what they have to say, but not so interested in camping in front of my TV for a large chunk of the daylight hours on the weekend.

Not 3,000 pieces, but here's one:

                          http://www.lds-gifts.com/lights-at-temple-square-puzzle

Look at the pricing, it's kind of strange that they get more expensives as you buy more, then dip again as you buy a lot. I wonder how many orders of 50 they get.

Edit: There's also a Sacred Grove one. That'd be cool if it was also a Magic Eye picture where you can see JC if you cross your eyes.

I predict that BKP will talk about raising kids in enemy territory. Or something to that effect.

I can't speak for everyone here, but I can speak for myself. In my case, I care what they have to say, but it is hard for me to pay attention because I find the subject matter to be repetitive. In other words, wake me up when they are saying something that isn't said over and over, week in and week out, month after month. And that they haven't already said a hundred times.

I think one of the reasons people get so excited for that little Church statistical report given in conference is simply because it is new information. Same with new temple announcements.

Honest question back at you...of the 10 hours of sessions this weekend, how many total minutes of NEW information do you anticipate? New meaning you didn't know it before you hear it this weekend? My personal guess is that the ratio is extremely low, perhaps even less than 10 minutes of new info out of 10 hours of slow talking. That might shed some light as to why some find it to be a bullet to the brain. There are probably other reasons, also.

That may be an unreasonable standard to apply for a believer. How much 'new' data do you EVER hear anywhere from any source (including your own scripture study) with respect to religion? I think it is more than simply hearing something 'new.' I think many people are looking for the message that touches their life for whatever reason. Almost every session it seems there are one or two talks that everyone thinks are very good and then most people also have one or two others, or portions of one or two others, that spoke to them. Few, if any of these talks ever have new data.

That said, for Saturday's sessions, I prefer to watch later or read later.
