With the announcement yesterday that Wake Forest transfer Tony Woods picked Oregon over Kentucky, Texas and Louisville. This closely follows Olu Ashaolu also choosing to spend his final season at Oregon after being courted by many high profile programs once again including Rick Barnes' Longhorns.

These late additions add to Dana Altman's first true recruiting class that included Jordan Brand selection Jabari Brown. Dana inherited a program that had a few moments of joy over the last decade, and nothing to write home about since Ronnie Lee in the mid-70s.

Watching him turn a bunch of scrap pieces into a 20 win team last year, and start to load talent this off-season has been fun. Knowing that he has the nicest college basketball arena in the country has to be a nice feather in the hat. Oregon will be an NCAA team this year and a dark horse to win the P12.

Looking at the kids that have Oregon on their list for 12 is amazing, every west coast kid has the Ducks on their list now. Next step is to start locking down the Portland kids, no more losing Terrance Jones, Kyle Wiltjer, Kevin Love, Aaron Miles etc. Then start moving in on Romar's stranglehold on the Seattle talent. I think that in 10 years Oregon is as likely to be considered a basketball school as a football school. It is a great time to live in Track Town, USA!

How many middle men were involved in Tony's recruitment?

There aren't those concerns in college hoops. Everyone loves middle men in NCAA basketball, the AAU program is alive and well! Even schools like BYU use AAU coaches for sources for players, so it must not be as big of deal there. Just another area of the silliness of the NCAA.

I've heard the arena is really nice. How does the floor look in person? It looks really strange on tv.

The floor works in person, and is pretty awful on TV. It wasn't really loved here, but it was designed by one of Matt Knight's best friends, so I don't think it is going away soon. I have heard some rumors about adding color to the trees or or lines to make them more distinct.

I think in 5 years it could be a reasonable discussion that Altman was as good of hire as Chip. This team is going to finish in the top 1/3 of the P12 and go to the dance this year. If Jabari is as good as advertised they play into the second weekend.

2012-13 season could be a conf title and a deep run.

There's something very creepy and wrong about Oregon. I don't know exactly what, it's just a feeling. But someday there will be a reckoning.

Nah just playing. Good luck to the Ducks. I can't make myself root for them though.

That's a good get. That kid looks like he's 13 or 14 years old though.

Dana Altman is a good basketball coach. Oregon's coach search was a circus, but they ended up with a good hire. Hill screwed up miserably when he didn't hire Altman after Majerus and when he didn't hire him again after Giacoletti.

Was Altman interested in the job at Utah at either time?

Speaking of fancy buildings leading to better recruiting, Michigan is finishing up a new "player development center" which includes new practice floors, meeting rooms, film room, and locker room...

and word has it they're going to land this guy on Thursday.

Not sure how related the two things are, but praise money!
