That could really hurt the last five years of that deal.

    • I'm really happy to have Epstein in Chicago. I can now be an Epstein fan. I couldn't really root for the guy while he was in Boston. I'm curious to see if he tries to hire away Bill James.

      • I'm just glad we have something good to talk about regarding the Cubs. I actually feel positive about my team now, and after these last few seasons, that's a big thing.

I was not aware of this, but this article says that Theo wanted Ryno to manage the Red Sox AAA team:

I love Ryno, but have always wondered if he is too nice and quiet of a guy to be a successful big league manager. He has thrown a couple of managerial tantrums in his time, I wonder if those were calculated to change his image a bit.

          • Aramis says he's going to test the free agent waters this winter. Pena is also a free agent. Theo could need to get a new set of corners this off season. It also looks like he'll try and shop Zambrano, even though Z has a no-trade clause.

"That hunk-of-junk scoreboard in center is apparently broken—they change the numbers by hand—and I don't even know if this place has electricity," Epstein said while directing workers to tear down the field's dangerous brick boundaries.

"I wouldn't look for that old scoreboard to be sitting on top of the center-field bleachers for many more years,'' the general manager said. "There's $20 million (a year) sitting up there if they put up a giant Jumbotron. I know people are attached to tradition, to that scoreboard, but is taking it down any bigger change than putting seats on top of the Green Monster?

Just to clarify for those reading this post, the "General Manager" quoted in the article is not Epstein, it is an anonymous GM. I have no problem with changes made to Wrigley if they are like the ones that were made to Fenway. I have been to Fenway before and after the changes and I think nothing they have done has taken away from the tradition or beauty of the park.

                          Maybe it was Jed Hoyer.

Agree. Theo Epstein did add seats atop the Green Monster at Fenway Park but he also kept the scoreboard manual on the face of it. I doubt he automates Wrigley Field's scoreboard.

Perhaps there would be some sort of compromise? Keep the manual scoreboard, but have robots change the numbers. That would be cool.
