I cut out meat and dairy from my diet about a year ago. Never looked or felt better. The first question I invariably get asked is, "What do you do for protein?" I bulked up recently from 165 to 180 (I'm 5'10") in mostly muscle gains and so I've been getting that question even MORE lately.
My answer? I don't eat protein.
Why? Cause it's bunk.
Take a walk down logic lane with me for a minute, if you will. What would happen if you took the exhaust pipe of a car and connected it to another car? Could the second car run off the fumes that the first car emitted? I've heard the answer is no. I've had it explained to me that the reason is explained in some law of physics about energy only being able to be used once. The same thing I've heard is true for human waste. Try eating your own poop, then poop it back out, and eat it again. How long could you go on that? Probably not very long.
So we come to the issue of animal-based protein. What does that mean? It means protein that is found in animal meat and animal milk. Let's take the meat. What is it? Muscle. And what does that muscle consist of? Protein. So it's natural to think, "Gee, if I want some protein, some animal's muscle is a great place to get it."
Well, I will admit that it is ONE place to get it. But is it the right place? Isn't animal flesh the result of an animal eating a plant and having their body synthesize the proteins and create that muscle? So, in essence, hasn't the protein ALREADY been converted into muscle? And now we're supposed to eat that muscle, break it BACK down into it's original protein form (possible?) only to RECONVERT it BACK into our own muscle tissue? Hmm...
To me it seems a little like a car running off another car's fumes. Could it work? Sure, maybe a little, I guess. But wouldn't you rather just go right to the source and pour nice, rich gasoline in your car?
The same seems obvious of eating of meat because our society has been duped by the cronies of the meat and dairy industries of America into thinking that protein = life, health, muscles, beauty, etc.
Nevermind the fact that Americans have as high or higher cancer and heart disease rates than any other group in the world. Why do we go to animal flesh to get our protein when we could go right to the source where they get their OWN protein -- Plants?
I for one, did. I stopped eating meat and dairy a year ago and I honestly would sound like I'm making up all the benefits I've found if I started to list them. As for muscle mass? Until my recent workout program, wherein I eat a 100% plant-based diet, the most I ever weighed was 165 lbs. I just weighed in yesterday at 180 lbs with only a slight gain in body fat. (That is probably due to the fact that I stopped doing cardio in order to speed up the muscle building process over the last two months. I'm sure I can fix that by throwing in a couple cardio workouts per week until I reach my desired build. Which appears to be approaching very soon.)
Anyway folks, I think it's a pretty simple concept. I am vouching for it without hesitation. Hope you all get to feel what it's like.
