Ah yes - GV/Nevada City are sort of Auburn's sister towns up Highway 49. Really beautiful there as well.

The reason I'd always choose Auburn - if I were to go back to the area for the long term - over GV or NC is that it's right off of I-80. 3 minutes from the hosue where I grew up to I-80 and then a straight shot to SF or Sac - or a straight shot the other way to SLC (about 10 hours).

But Grass Valley is part of the map of my years growing up. Once got throw out of a stake dance in GV for trying to dance on top of a table. The sight of me being escorted out gave me just the renegade edge I needed to impress the local Mormon girls.

Not sure how old you are but did you know the Watley's in Auburn. The parents are still there I believe. Bunch of daughters around my age.

Was one of their daughters named Olivia?

If so I knew her a little and she was friends with a lot of the girls I grew up with but I don't remember interacting with her much.

But yes - the Watleys were definitely in one of the other Auburn wards (there are three).

I'm 1992 HS grad, if Olivia is who I'm thinking she would have been a year or two behind me.

Yep that's them. Olivia is the youngest I believe. The ones I know best are older but I know the whole family. Actually spent a Christmas with them back in the day (86 or so I think).

That about sums it up. By the way Oxcoug we have quite a bit of family in GrassValley/ NC. My Uncle was a park ranger up at Malakoff Diggins (if you know where that is) we spent almost every summer up there. I remember Auburn well as soon as we reached the In n Out I knew we were almost to the main freeway and back to civilization.

Utah - grew up in Sandy; now live in Murray. I like it now, though everyplace in SL County other than West Valley City is pretty much the same.

New York - Poughkeepsie. Yes, I'd live there again.

Damn, all kinds of CUF ties to the Foothills!

Yeah Auburn's In'N'Out was a small/strange point of pride for Auburnites as it was the first of the franchise in Northern California (and I think the first outside of So Cal other than Vegas).

Looks like a lot of you like Texas. Good wages/salaries, low cost of living and the best economy in the country.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”
