I hzate breaking spokes. The front wheel on my commuter is about 12 years old and I am not sure I have ever trued it properly since I firs tbought the bike (the rear wheel has been rebuilt completely once and trued a coupel of times in the same time frame). RIding home from work and I get up on my pedasl to accelerate to try to beat a light and 'ping' the tell-tale sound of a broken spoke. Grrrr. I can maitntain a biie pretty much alone, but I have neverlearned how to build or true wheels properly. So off to ahsop for too long. Oh well, at least it is raining today and otmorrow.

I've been really fortunate with spokes. I've never broken one and the worst that I've had happen with my wheelset is a loose spoke that has tightened with a couple quick turns of the spoke wrench.
I've got another friend that i ride with that has had all sorts of problems with busted spokes. Just last week he had to call his wife for a ride home after blowing one out about 15 miles from home.
