Default I'm considering braving Black Friday for the 1st time

I'm in the market for a new cell phone and Best Buy has the 2 that I'm interested in each for $1 with a new contract. I have always stayed away from these sales, but the though of saving at least $100 has me strongly considering it. If we decide to go with the Samsung Fascinate (which I'm leaning towards right now) it will save me $250 between the 2 phones that I'm planning to buy. So does anyone know how early you really need to show up to get the doorbusters at Best Buy. Also, if you are looking at getting 2 of one of the items do you have to have 2 people present to each get a ticket when they pass them out?

I hope this is the last time in my life I'm every considering braving this madness.
The crux of what has traumatized us about CUF/CG is that we thought they were our friends. And their identity as BYU fans turned out to be the most important thing to them. What empty lives! What a damning indictment of the LDS Church!

I don't know, but the guy at our Best Buy said you need to camp out the night before to get any of the good Black Friday deals.

I was considering Black Friday... I have never done it before. There is an Office Depot here that often gets overlooked (or so I hear) and doesn't have much of a line. Plus, I get up early anyway, so I might as well.
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

I've gone every year for the last 8 years. I enjoy it.

There's a sewing machine at Walmart that my wife has her eye on. I'm scared, but I'm going to try.

I hate it. Wife loves it. Ugh.

Let the record reflect that I think Black Friday is the anti-Christ. If my presence is required for us to acquire two Samsung Fascinate phones, bad things will happen. Think flames coming out of ears, bloody eyeballs, head spinning backwards bad things.

I always go to Home Depot. 3 years in a row I have picked up a new shop-vac for $15. Normally close to $100.

    Then I regift them.

No need for me to participate in the Black Friday muss as all the Christmas shopping is done.

My wife was talking about skipping it this year, but the daughters somehow think it is a tradition, maybe 'cuz they've done it for the past 15 yrs or so, so she will be going. I will be sleeping in.

I don't do black Friday. Here is what I sometimes do...purchase the items you want now. On black Friday, swing by the stores at your convenience. If the item you purchased went on sale, show your receipt and most retailers will refund you the difference. If it did not go on sale, then either keep it or return it for a full refund.

I have done this at department stores and they always refund the difference. I would imagine customer friendly places like target and walmart would do this, but not sure.

Waking up at 2 am to stand in lines doesn't sound like a fun idea to me.

It is my understanding that a lot of the electronics that go on sale for Black Friday (the ones you need to stand in line forever to get) are items that the stores only carry for Black Friday. Otherwise, this plan is great.

You are probably correct. Doesnt work for all of the door busters. but for the other stuff that you are hoping to see on sale (clothes, shoes, small appliances, towels and blankets for example), it has worked for me.

Nordstrom, Rack, Macy's Mens all have honored the commitment to refund the difference on purchased items (within a reasonable amount of time, of course).

We also will ask store employees about Black Friday markdowns and they will often give you the skinny the week before...."such and such items will definitely go on sale" or "we have no plans to discount these items on Friday."

There is a team of moms in my ward that take Black Friday to a whole new level. They battle plan on Thanksgiving afternoon and stake out different stores with group shopping lists. It seems kind of excessive to me, but I guess they save a lot of money.

Used to hate it and think shoppers were nuts for getting out of bed so earlier on a non-work day. Now I see it as an easy way to get Christmas shopping done in under four hours. Makes my Christmas season jolly to not have to go back to the mall.

Having worked one fairly hectic Black Friday in retail, there did seem to be a mid-afternoon lull. For items that might still be available later in the day, I might consider it. I only get out of bed or stay up for stuff like the Harry Potter 7 release.

I took no offense. I just find no pleasure in standing in line in the cold at 2 AM to possibly (maybe?) get one of possibly as few as five or ten deeply discounted phones. Regan-like reactions may ensue.

Of all of the things that are wrong with the Christmas season, Black Friday has to be right up near the top of the list. Gag.

    Don't do it, funk.

there is no product on earth that would make get out of bed that early. I've been to some stores at opening time to get deals on some specific items, but I've never, nor will I ever camp out for black Friday.
