• I heard this cover while listening to Pandora on a late night at the office. I always really liked the lyrics and mood of the original, but I had a difficult time taking the singer seriously with his screechy Eddie Vetter impersonation. This guy has a clean voice, and I like the piano adaptation. I also enjoy the homoerotic photo used for the youtube video.

    • You know cover I absolutely hate? That ridiculous folk-stomp-Zep wannabe verison of Jay-Z's 99 Problems. Reminds me of that stupid Dynamite Hack cover. Trying to sound white and ironic does not make a song very interesting.

So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Not bad, but I think I sill like Bill Fitz's version better. There's a little more desperation in his voice or something.

              • May have been covered but I just listened to Metallica's covers of both the Irish song 'Whiskey in the Jar' and Bob Seger's Turn the Page. Love them both.

Those are both great covers. Whiskey in a Jar is a great song and hard to mess up. I have to say that one of my favorite cover albums is "Two Rooms" which contains covers of Elton John songs. Bruce Hornsby's version of "Madman across the Water" is dynamite!

ohmygosh that was awful! The guy sounded like he was about to fall asleep. Reminds me of when Dixie Chicks remade Landslide like they didn't understand what they were singing about.

Speaking of which - the Smashing Pumpkins cover of Landslide is legit.

                            • To adequately vent my impending depression at the borderline criminal suspension of Davies, I've been spending some time listening to the psuedo-depressive anthems of my teen years. I was quite interested to see what happened to one of them:

Original (one of my favorite all-time videos, btw):

Acoustic after Chris ditched Kim and co.:

                              As butchered by Alanis Morissette:

                              An interesting Incubus cover:

                              Paul Effing Anka:

And the one that has been making me laugh all morning:

Smells Like Teen Spirit also has an Anka and a Moog Cookbook cover, among others. I recommend the Anka version for a great time. The Tori Amos one isn't bad, depending on what you like.
