Agreed about Sveum. Dude knows baseball. He wasn't a great skilled player in his day, but his baseball smarts are why he's a manager. He did exactly what he was supposed to do - defend your players but don't get tossed.

There was another good comment by one of the local guys that Harper is so damn aggressive on the bases that he is in guys heads a little. They know that Harper will try things other guys won't try and force you to make a play or a second throw. When people are thinking about that, it creates errors because guys are distracted and drop fly balls, mishandle grounders because they are trying to get up and throwing so fast. I thought that as a great point.

The Cubs manager said Harper has the best bat speed in the majors. Compared him to A-Rod in terms of being a once in a generation type player.

HAVE I MENTIONED THAT I LOVE BEING A FREAKING NATS FAN?
I've got Harper as well as Trout on my keeper fantasy league - we've been rolling our entire rosters forward since 2004, so far. I'm liking my roster for the long term.

      • The Nats rookie hazing is pretty good. This was last year with Strasburg as papa smurf:

This year they made the rookies dress like the women's Olympic gymnast team:

        • Harper was going to be a scratch tonight because he is 0-10 against Dickey but Davey Johnson said that he needs to hit the knuckle ball sometime. He went 3-4 off Dickey and is now 4-5 in the game. He's having a good September.

          • Watching Nationals and Braves. Top of the 6th, Braves up 1-0 and the first pitch of the inning, Medlen hands a slider and Harper puts it in the opposite field bleachers.

Speaking of Medlen, that dude has a vicious 2 seam fastball. Wow.

Outside of Harper, who seemed to have his number, he was unhitable last night.

If you understood baseball, you'd be watching.

What if I don't wish to understand baseball? Actually, your analysis makes it more interesting.

                          • Nats rallying!

A win puts them into the post season as at least a WC.

Edit: Matt Kemp homers in the top of the 9th to take the lead back.

                            • Harper owns the record for most extra base hits by a teenager. A record that has stood since 1935. Yeah, you read that right.
