On sheer views, Rad, North Shore, Field of Dreams, Hoosiers, and Top Gun would have to round out my top 5 all time.

I'm 36 years-old, so:
Comedies: Airplane!, Ghostbusters, Back to the Future
Action: Raiders of the Lost Ark, Beverly Hills Cop
Sci-Fi: The Wrath of Khan, Aliens, Terminator, Blade Runner
Drama: An Officer and a Gentleman, The Breakfast Club
There are other 80s films that I enjoy, but these are the ones that I saw BITD and still find endearing. For whatever reason, I could never get into Field of Dreams.Last edited by Sleeping in EQ; 04-17-2010, 05:21 PM.We all trust our own unorthodoxies.

For example, Top Gun isn't even in Apocalypse Now's league. And while Aliens is a credible action flick, Alien is by far the superior film.
That doesn't mean you shouldn't enjoy some 80s films, though. What you bring to the viewing experience is important. We all trust our own unorthodoxies.

I will say that, while a very nice movie, E.T. shouldn't be regarded as the second best movie of any decade.

Btw here's the 50 highest rated 80s films on the IMDB, based on popular vote. The top three are The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and The Shining.

I was 2.5 on Jan. 1, 1980 and 12.5 on Dec. 31, 1989. I lived in a town with one movie theater that had two screens. We didn't get a VCR until probably 1986.
So, I didn't see a lot of 80s movies in the 80s. I do remember begging my dad to take me to see Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and thinking I was the coolest girl in second grade for seeing it. I also remember seeing Ferris Bueller's Day Off at friend's house and spending our whole 5th grade year plotting "our day off" and how we were going to do it (which we, of course, never did). My brother took me to see Back to the Future. He worked at the movie theater and got us in free. (Funny thing, this movie, was actually the inspiration for my oldest son's name.) Other than that, the 80s, as far as movies were concerned, was a pretty uneventful decade for me.
Most of the 80s movies I have seen, I saw in the 90s or later.Last edited by marsupial; 04-17-2010, 06:11 PM.What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.
