Dr. Hill's job should not be at risk. People have always given him too much credit and now he should not shoulder too much blame. There is a large element of crap shoot in coaching hires. He hired logical candidates in every case except arguably Kyle Whittingham. Many including LAUte and Mr Crimson wanted him to bring in a foreign, sexy mercenary like Urban. Whaterver Hill really wanted, the upcoming Fiesta Bowl and decimiation of the staff forced his hand.

Chris Hill did not make the good coaches, they were born that way. He didn't have a hand in the bad coaching. Chris Hill had nothing to do with the Utes' glory years. He didn't sweat bullets on the sidelines, look at tape until wee hours and formulate innovative game plans, he didn't wipe any 18 year-old infant's ass, he didn't endure the tedium of imparting fundamentals day after day, he never bowed and scraped before the moms and their precocious and pampered boy wanabe stars.

At bottom, Chris Hill is just an administrator in a large public university. A paper pusher. Maybe he can be faulted for past over self-promotion. But it's hard to fault his self-promotion with a people as gullible and in search of a messiah as many Utefans.

LAUte will confirm that as always I have been consistent in these views, clear back to when Chris Hill was Christ Hill.

That is DOCTOR Chris(t) Hill to you, Counsellor!

I am not LAute!, but I will confirm that you are consistent wrt to DOCTOR Chris Hill's impact on Ute athletic successes and failures.

I am thinking it was a "hey coach I am thinking about leaving" and Boylen says "Good do not let the door hit you on the ass on the way out"
I think the SID and Boylen wrote those Henderson quotes. Maybe they rean it by him. But that kid doesn't seem to have a terribly high IQ. He probably didn't appreciate that they were getting him to incriminate himself and support Boylen's own PR strategy.

People have talked about Henderson's immaturity and selfishness. Mostly I think he's stupid. Boylen fully indulged his immaturity and selfishness. Henderson was going to return and play 36 minutes a game and shoot 36 times, even if only 1 in 3 went in the hoop. He hasn't figured out that this is an unusual opportunity for someone like him.

The reason Duke wins championships is Coach K recruits smart kids; it's the same reason Majerus won.

Now that Boylen's train is running off the rails like it is crazy, the latest was a rumor that Majerus is the real cause of the issues because he told Boylen not to take the job because Ute fans are dickheads. Whenever there are issues on the Hill, there is always a rumor of breakdowns or how some former coach from 6 years ago is the cause.

It appears to me that the issues at Utah are deep and complex. I think they run the range from the Good Doctor not handling Majerus well, making some poor hires (remember when the Good Doctor announced to mankind that Utah doesn't hire good coaches, Utah makes good coaches - some might call that arrogance) and flat out a huge dose of bad luck. Utah can recover but I am with Crimson that they should approach it as if Boylen was just hired and let him try to rebuild the mess. Boylen's tenure might have more bad luck than Gary Crowton's. If either Boylen isn't good enough or if the bad luck continues they can throw his ass off the boat like Jonah's in two more years.
Giac was a bad hire, but he also had a bit of a breakdown.

The Majerus era ended with a bad breakup, and he may have told Boylen not to take the job, but I doubt these things have anything to do with the departure of 5 players this off season.

Boylen may yet prove to be another bad hire, but I think the jury is still out. He will be given time to recover from the current situation.

I can't think of any other bad hires by Dr. Hill

Gen. Burkhalter: "Klink, I am a staff officer."
Col. Klink: "I didn't mean you sir, you're not clever."

Miller got a degree on time and stayed on to work on a Masters. What are you suggesting here? It doesn't seem good.

I'm not suggesting anything. You knew exactly what I was referring to so my point was made. He obviously had a high basketball IQ and has become a very good NBA player. Relax.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

                  • Can UtahDan (our only Ute mod) fix the grammar in the title of this thread (now that it has become a best seller and threatens to endure)? It's making me go cross eyed, and I imagine BYU fans are enjoying this support of the canard that all Utes are gas pumperrs.

Of course he was. He wants his team to get in and get confident.

                            Don't forget Solon and YOhio.

I liked the original version better. I am willing to help out, so I was waiting to find out what part of the lifeboat to man.
