Holy shit. The ending is just baffling to me.

I hate to put such a devastatingly sad article in this thread making fun of Kim Jong Il, but this is as good of a place as any. As easy as he is to mock and caricature, he's an evil bastard worthy of our contempt.

    On to the article.

The country's dysfunctional food-distribution system, rising global commodities prices and sanctions imposed over Pyongyang's nuclear and missile programs had contributed to what appears to be a hunger crisis in the North, even before devastating summer floods and typhoons compounded the emergency.

The regime's appeals for massive food aid have gone mostly unanswered by a skeptical international community. Only 30 percent of a United Nations food aid target for North Korea has been met so far. The United States and South Korea, the two biggest donors before sanctions, have said they won't resume aid until they are satisfied the military-led communist regime won't divert the aid for its own uses and progress is made on disarmament talks.

I'm annoyed that they have doner kebabs in North Korea, and I can't find one in the United States.

    Not that, sickos.

Died of fatigue on a train ride? I wonder if there were any covert ops action happening there, would make for a great Hawaii 5-0 episode.

Sad news. The golfing community lost one of its best today.

Kinda scary to ponder what will happen now. I understand his son is an even bigger idiot/nut than he was.

How could anyone possibly know that? Further, how could someone be a bigger nut? Can you do worse than destroying a horrible economy, allowing no freedom and controlling all power?

I seem to remember hearing the same thing, but I couldn't tell you where. I'd like to think someone that young and with that much power to change millions of lives for good would seize the opportunity and become a hero and legend. Somehow I doubt that happens.

Who knows? Lots of people abandon the faith of their fathers when they realize that it doesn't align with their true beliefs.

So Kim dies of natural causes. Ironic. North Korea has nukes so nobody is going to attack them. Gaddafi gave up his nuclear development program ten years ago and what happened to him? He was raped just before being murdered by NATO (don't give me the thing about us not doing it directly, Charles Manson never killed anyone but he is in jail because he got other people to do it).

And people wonder what might motivate Iran to develop a nuke?

It is a shame that murderous despots have to live in such fear. You don't see Finland racing to develop nuclear weapons.

Folks in N. Korea are grieving the loss of Dear Leader:

I started out laughing, but then I realized that these people probably feel compelled to pretend like they are grieving.

they probably are really sad because they have been brainwashed their entire lives to see him as a God on earth.

Did you watch the video? Some of the people are just standing there until they become aware of the camera getting closer, when they spontaneously start weeping.

I used to think that, but I'm not sure anymore. After I saw the Lisa Ling documentary where she snuck over there with a bunch of doctors, I started leaning towards the thought that the people may really just be that brainwashed. At least some of them.

Word on the street is that this new guy - Kim Jong Un - is an NBA fan. Maybe we should send Jimmer over to straighten all this out.

Please stop demeaning the important cash crop.

And Obama is your President. In fact, he's too conservative most of the time, but nobody more progressive is on the ticket this time around.

I watched it again didnt notice much of that, maybe in a few places. I am not even sure how many North Koreans actually know that their suffering is because of him.
