  • This book is still on my list to order and read.

The author's statement here is also a good read:

This is the author who provided the original draft for the church approved essay on race and the priesthood. There are some interviews on the web where he affirms this.

He makes some good points, one of which I always keep in the back of my mind:

History is incomplete. It can never fully capture the hearts and minds of past peoples or completely recreate past events.

Imagine future historians using Twitter as an original source. Really, think long and hard about that. Then apply what you have learned to history as you know it.

That essay in the second link is really good. Thanks.

Here's the interview where he talks about his involvement with the essay (and other things of interest).

              • So - driving home last night I saw an ad for Mormon Stories on one of those electronic billboards.

                "Mormon Stories Podcast"
                "Know your religion"

Looks like someone has decided to throw a few thousand into advertising this thing.

That is a victory for Satan.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Did Dehlin really ask for donations for airfare? Oh man, does that look bad.

The article quotes his facebook post requesting airfare to remain a silver club member. Pretty funny.

I love that he's asking for a $500 donation for his own airfare - but he's also looking for someone to come help him (monitor the cameras and sound), as long as they pay their own way. Haha!

Why is anyone surprised by this? Also loved this quote:

I’ll end by pointing out an irony that is probably the most frustrating part of all this. If OSF and any of its key players are using donations in ways that are not true to the spirit in which they were given, that’s irresponsible. And, it’s frustratingly similar to one of the major issues I took with the LDS church when my family and I left.
Dehlin learning the hardway why full transparency is not as easy as you might think. He is doing it on a much smaller scale and still can't explain his fund allocation. I am waiting for the calls to remove his tax exempt status next.

I think it's worse than that. The article makes it look pretty likely that he's treating the nonprofit as his personal piggy bank (with no oversight), something that doesn't happen in the church.
