  • USC vs. Utah in the Fiesta Bowl?

Assuming Utah beats the Cougs, a USC/Utah match-up in the Fiesta Bowl seems likely IMO.

    My bowl predictions:

    NCG
    Florida vs. Oklahoma
This would mean that an OU win over TT is enough to move them ahead of UT in the B12 South standings (the head-to-head tiebreaker would be circular for OU/TT/UT, thus moving the tiebreaker to whichever team is higher in the BCS rankings).

    Rose
    Oregon St. vs. Penn St.
If they don't make the NCG, the PAC10 and Big10 champs and the Rose Bowl are contractually committed to each other (see the "Team-Selection Procedures" section here: http://www.bcsfootball.org/bcsfb/eligibility)

    Fiesta
    USC vs. Utah
I think USC is an easy pick for the Fiesta committee, selecting Utah might be harder for them. Given that SLC is within reasonable driving distance and the current economic environment, picking Utah makes sense.

    Sugar
    Alabama vs. Texas

    Orange
ACC winner vs. Big East winner
The Orange Bowl has the NCG to make up for this shafting.

If it is Fiesta, should not be a problem, although face for BCS games is usually about $120 or more, just as an fyi.

Also, no ticket if you are going to wear your beaver gear.

Personally, I am fine with a Rose Bowl bid because then I can just drive 45 mins and be home but Fiesta would be a fun change of pace.

I am paying 125 for a ticket to the Utah vs BYU game. So more than that for Fiesta no problemo.

I talked to my Beaver friend last night, he was more concerned about BYU scenarios to make a BCS game than going to the Rose Bowl. He said he wants no part of a Penn State rematch.

Utah v USC in the fiesta will not happen... Fiesta will choose the 2nd place Big 12 team (In your scenario that would be Texas).

Texas vs. Utah in the Fiesta is possible too.

I don't see any non-BCS team being attractive enough right now for the Fiesta to pick over other BCS teams they could choose.

My bet is that whatever non-BCS team makes a BCS bowl, they will play in the Orange.

You could be right. How did things work out that previously the Fiesta has gotten Utah and Boise St.?

EDIT: To clarify, are you saying the Fiesta gets to pick two at-large teams before any of the other bowls pick?

                      They had the last pick.

Last pick 2 out of 3 years? (2004 season and 2006 season)

The Fiesta is tied in to the Big 12. It looks likely that the Big 12 Champ will play in the NC game this year, so the Fiesta will get first dibs to replace that team. They will choose another Big 12 team.

After the teams that are contractually obligated to specific Bowls, the Fiesta then gets first pick this year for at-large teams. I just don't see Utah, BSU, or BYU (on the outside chance...) being attractive enough to get picked over their other alternatives. While a non-BCS team could end up in the FIesta, Sugar or Orange, I'll be surprised if the non-BCS team is not in the Orange (last pick this year).

This is my understanding as well.

I'd much prefer a return to the Fiesta Bowl over the Orange Bowl because of travel. It's a lot easier to get to Tempe than it is to Miami.

Also, I missed the last Fiesta Bowl trip because of a family funeral.
