  • The Yankees are bad for baseball...

Not so much because they signed Teixeira, but because they took another great baseball player off the market.

By trying to buy all the better players in order to win, the Yankees are diluting the rest of the league and that is what is bad for baseball.

The capitalist in me has no problem with players getting as much as they can, but the baseball guy in me wants to see a balanced league in the talent department. This is one of the very, very rare times that I believe a salary cap is a good thing - the others would be the other professional team sport leagues, as in the NBA, the NFL, etc. I want to see talent parity in baseball.

Hopefully, Steinbrenner is one of the people involved with Madoff.

IPU appears to be getting his wish. The SOBs (Sons of the BOSS) do not seem to have the same desire to have a winning team. According to the reports from Corbin signing with the Nats, the Yankees expected him to give them a home town discount because he grew up a fan. They are ignoring generational talent in Harper and Machado and treating the luxury tax like a hard cap. Granted, I don't know if Corbin is worth more than the 5/100 that was offered but to be outbid on both money and years for what you have stated is your highest off-season priority is embarrassing. Just because you spring train in Tampa doesn't mean you have to adopt their spending model.

12 guys on the IL. 12 games played. I know, for many of you, this couldn't happen to a nicer team. If injuries were the only issue, you just say bad luck year and move on. But I have never seen a more craptastic display of non-fundamental baseball from a team over such a period of games. What a great year for baseball.

Well, you can't predict baseball, Susyn. Mess cleaned up and charging on toward 28.

I'll be back in a couple months complaining about the latest swoon.

28 games in a row with a home run. A new MLB record. Let's keep it going tonight.

Not much of a prospect hugger and this will take some years, but here's hoping he works out.

So when a reliever clearly doesn't have it, how many batters in does the damage done shift from his head to the manager? Is the answer different for an established vet vs. a shuttle riding rookie?

Question is based on last night, when Chapman, a usually sure closer, could not find the plate and required the Yankees to work an extra inning because he allowed Tampa to tie it up.

He's going to make $100k a day for the next 9 years. Sports are dumb man.

i guess. but there are about 300 people on the planet who can do what he does. there are about 5 who can do it as well as he does. that's how you get paid.

Schmaybe. He could wreck his shoulder is 2 weeks and it could be career ending. Still gets the entire amount. That is what is crazy.

I have gotten to the point in life though where I have almost checked out of all professional sports.

This is madness. Best case scenario, they'll get 5 years of value for this contract, because let's face it, when you have $324MM guaranteed, what is driving you to put in the extra work to be excellent in the last four years of your career?

Maybe an internal drive to reach potential? You don't feel that? Yeah, me neither.
