Only behind such a distracting smokescreen could Damon Albarn get away with conducting a project as sprawling, daring, innovative, surprising, muddled and magnificent as Plastic Beach: not just one of the best records of 2010, but a release to stand alongside the greatest Albarn’s ever been involved with and a new benchmark for collaborative music as a whole.
It’s a great metaphor for the playful way Damon Albarn has built up the Gorillaz’ danceably eclectic sound from offcuts of hip hop, funk, alternative rock, pop, world and electronica. He doesn’t steal, borrow or lazily recycle from other genres. He lovingly salvages the things they’ve left behind, like a hip, 21st century Womble.
Little over six months after he was playing ‘Country House’, Albarn turns his attention towards the conceptual, genre-leaping futuregroove of Gorillaz with gloriously stunning results – third album ‘Plastic Beach’ is a flawlessly executed neo-pop masterpiece.
I just really want to hear this. NPR is streaming it Monday. So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Not sure what to think of the Mos Def track. It's pretty great at the end with the drums, bass and horns, but I feel like it's just a bit too long for what it is. Maybe this one will be a grower. So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.
