I'd love to be there, but I'll be in Costa Rica with students (which is just as awesome). I'm thinking that I'll try and take students to Brazil in 2014.

Maradona (no es una persona cualquiera) is considering resigning at coach of the Argentine national team because they are in danger of not qualifying. It's inconceivable to me that Paraguay has been able to keep the Ches down. I can't imagine a World Cup with Argentina--it hasn't happened in my lifetime.

Wow, the World Cup is going to start with a 3-hour concert that will feature many different musicians from around the world, but will include Jay-Z, Beyoncé, and the Black Eyed Peas.

Can you imagine how <redacted> it's going to be for the US Team to play in Honduras this weekend given the testy political situation/tension there right now?

I'm not envious. Good luck, boys!

I know I shouldn't be posting in this thread, but I suggest that the match with Honduras be moved to a more calm political climate. Chicago comes to mind.

The USA is in, following a 3-2 away win over Honduras; their first loss at home during the qualifiers. Next week we play Costa Rica. Here's hoping the ticos can move into third, and not have to play against a CONMEBOL team for the wildcard.

Here's a pretty decent article about yesterday's qualifying matches. Argentina hung on to avoid elimination:

Italy's team captain finally has his name cleared over emergency bee-sting medicine injection. He was accused of using banned substances because he didn't have the right paperwork.

                              US Team suffers off-the-field setback.

Charlie Davies is one of our best players and his potential loss will be big for the American side.

I know I haven't contributed to this thread yet, but you know I'm a huge soccer fan, especially of the US MNT. To be honest, I think the Davies loss has some impact, but I would never think of Davies as one of our best players. I actually doubt that he would've even made the final selection for the World Cup, not with Donovan, Altidore, and Ching be available.
