Ha! I will admit, I'm no stranger to Tillamook ice cream. In fact, we've become quite good friends over the last year. But I've also resumed lifting weights again over the last 2 or 3 years. It's hard to say how much muscle I've gained, but I feel so much better when I am in decent shape with both cardio and muscular strength. Throw in some tennis once or twice a week that I took up again during COVID, and I feel like I'm 44 again!

    That is great.

Due to the pandemic, my wife and I have beefed up our hiking. We hike 1-2 hours and do routes with significant elevation gain. We also bought a peleton and do that on alternate days or in addition to hiking. My cardio is better than it has been in ages. I can fly up the trails now.

On the initial Tapatalk screen all I could read was “Due to the pandemic, my wife and I have beefed up”. Made me so happy to be in the company of Jeff and Sister Lebowski, two good peeps who I’ve always assumed are in pretty good shape.

Never should have clicked on the post. Shit.

I need to lose 5lbs so my scale stops telling me I'm overweight. It's a hard time of year because it's to cold to bike and not enough snow to ski so I'm stuck indoors. I ride my Peloton five or six times a week, I row every day, do pushups and a kettle bell workout, intermittent fasting, and I'm still overweight on my BMI scale. I feel good, I ride with guys half my age but it takes a lot of work and I'm still not where I should be. It's a tough standard.

But I hope you don’t run into PAC, because he’ll probably ask you how many times a week you are hitting the Tastee Freeze.

Yes, inquiring minds want to know. But this is where the BMI thing is very misleading. Although my BMI at least a full point below RCV, I know from many get-togethers with him that he's in way better condition. and that my advantage is attributable solely to a difference in muscle mass. In relative terms, he's a young Lou Ferrigno to my PeeWee Herman.

Ok, I think it's time to acknowledge that the BMI charts are a SWAG.

It was good to see that but it can get away from me pretty quick. I need goals and 193 is it this winter. There is a reason PAC has a great BMI, he puts up huge mileage hiking. Him and several others on here are a real inspiration to keep going and stay active.

BMI is a very blunt metric, but a quick and easy one to calculate and standardize on.

I'm sure there are a few folks in the 77% of us that are showing overweight/obese where BMI doesn't accurately reflect their fitness and health level. However, I'm also sure that those people are in the minority and, blunt though it may be, the BMI metric gets the categorization of overweight/obese right more often than it gets it wrong.

Agree it's a valuable tool for its simplicity, but let's not pretend it has high fidelity.
