    and had a 10-to-15-year time horizon, what investments would you consider? Assume safety of principal is the first priority, protection against inflation is a significant second priority, and potential for a greater return is a distant or even nonexistent third priority.

    Dividend paying utility stock? Most are paying between 4-6%. You don't have a protection against volatility in principal but their volatility tends to be lower than the market.
