Directv supports the add-ons of external hard drives to increase DVR storage capacity. Maybe it was just my age at the time (college and then law school) but I couldn't get interested in the Summer Olympics at all in 2000 and 2004. Then I became interested again in 2008. Maybe it's because we have the Chinese as the new cheating villains, so we've got a version of the old US v. Soviet rivalry going on.Part of it is based on academic grounds. I think that the receivers only support one drive at a time, meaning that if you plug in an external drive, that is the only one that the receiver can use. So you'd better make sure you have a really big external drive to make it worth the loss of the original drive's capacity. OK, I assumed it would automatically start pushing data out to the external drive once the DVR drive is full, but obviously I haven't spent much time researching this. I have a 1TB external, which I think is good for up to 100 hours of HD recording. Between our other DVRs, I think we might have it covered.Originally posted by falafel View Post
