Here's the ultimate solution to the BCS mess:
The universities license their names and logos to private corporations that own the teams. The terms of the licenses will be that the teams' home field must remain within a twenty mile radius (this distance is arbitrary right now for purposes of discussion) of the licensor's campus. The players need not (and likely would not) be affiliated in any way with the university. This new system will act as literal or de facto farm system to the NFL.
Based on the foregoing, the seasons can now be extended to as long as 18 or so games as per the NFL, incluidng a really kick ass world cup style tournament.
Now the universities can really rake it in from license fees without dirtying themselves. Coaches, etc. will be employed by the corporation. The university only gets hefty license fees.
