  • Gunther just said on 1280 that OU's Center

had 20 (T W E N T Y) knockdowns during the game (that a knockdown is any time an OLman puts a DLman on the ground - like a pancake, but a pancake means the DLman ended up on his back).

Is that possible? Could OU's center have made 20 really good blocks?

If a NT goes to the ground on his own, taking a center and guard with him - something NTs are taught to do, btw - is that still a 'knockdown'? Frankly - that's a more likely explanation of what happened, given the total play of OU's OL in the game. Or was OU's OL simply awsome, and BYU's DL just that much better?

Oh yeah - and Gunther also said that OU is moving the center back to TE...

Oklahoma had less than 60 plays from scrimmage, if you exclude all the penalties. Maybe all the knockdowns came on plays that were called back. FWIW, I rewatched the game last night primarily to see how the DL performed and I can safely say that the C didn't come within shouting distance of 10 pancakes on the DT, let alone 20.

Maybe for his next trick, Gunther can pull a rabbit out of the same hole that conjured up the 20 pancake stat.

OU's starting center who was their back up TE? I don't know who is keeping those stats but from what I watched those numbers are ridiculous. In fact I thought the NGs played great. Tialavea and Fuga had good games. And they certainly played well on the 7 play goal line stand.

It looks like that is what the OU coaches are claiming, it wasn't a stat that came from Gunther. I think they are full of shit.

OU fans said it was fifteen. That TE is famous for being a great blocker, and I don't doubt the statistic. Great blocking from the TE-turned center doesn't change the fact that he couldn't make the right protection calls.
