i listened to Colin this morning and he had great comments for BYU and the MWC in general, basically said that the top3 would compete with the top 3 in the Big 10. He also felt that BYu was a legit NC contender. Some don't like him, in fact, many hate him, but he is a big name on a bigger outlet, so it is good to hear his bleatings in our favor.
"The first thing I learned upon becoming a head coach after fifteen years as an assistant was the enormous difference between making a suggestion and making a decision."

"They talk about the economy this year. Hey, my hairline is in recession, my waistline is in inflation. Altogether, I'm in a depression."

"I like to bike. I could beat Lance Armstrong, only because he couldn't pass me if he was behind me."

I've come around on Herd, but his biggest problem is his use of hyperbole in overreacting to something that happens in a given week.

The week that Utah was getting ready to play UCLA in 2007 he said "Ben Olson is the best QB in the nation that nobody is talking about." And that was based on two wins?

I think he has some salient points about the Cougars, and I'm glad the MWC is getting so much positive pub between all the big wins...but he always takes things just a little too far on a week to week basis.
"They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

He definitely has about a 24 hour memory span.

Apparently Bruce Feldman will be on Colin Cowherd today espousing BYU's BCS title chances.

I'm sure you Cougar fans will be interested/delighted.

I like him better now that I understand his schtick. He's about hyperbole and bombastic statements for ratings, and he doesn't try to hide it.

And that says a lot about how far downhill ESPN has gone over the years.

I have to admit, it's not what it was 10 years ago. Back when I was in college, Sportscenter was a must-watch deal for both me and the missus. (I was a fan of Kenny Mayne, although I know not everybody felt the same way)

I'm not sure when the decline started, but the "Who's Now" segment of a few years ago was so bad the anchors were having a hard time containing their disdain.

I like The Herd because his topics are all over the place and he has a strong opinion. It is a good show. Plus he has always pimped college football like no other.

I don't have to agree with him to like his show. Often I don't agree, but it is still interesting.

ESPNews and the rise of streaming video has diluted the product.

And for how self-serving ESPN is, they do a great job. Their website is top-notch; their "talent" (bloggers, analysts, reporters) is better than any other organization; and for better or worse, they're synonymous with sports.

I rarely watch SportsCenter anymore. haven't for years. I watch GameDay religiously, but I watch SportsCenter about as often as I attend Sunday School.

I did tune in to SC a few days ago and was shocked that they have their anchors stand up for full body shots in front of a green screen. The acnhor is just standing there out in the open, reading a prompter and not moving around. Some of those pant suits on the female anchors are horrible. It is very awkward and serves little purpose.

This is exactly why I love listening to the Herd.

I am not digging all this premature talk in the media, although I understand that their job is to run the hype machine. But I am digging all the talk about the MWC, in general. Right now, Utah, TCU, and BYU are as good a Top 3 as almost half the BCS conferences.

I was just listening to Cowherd about ten minutes ago and he said that there was a 50% shot that we're going to see BYU play Florida in the national title game.

Even if BYU wins out, I just don't see this happening. First off, there are three teams that can have one loss and still get in ahead of BYU: Florida, Texas and USC. So, two out of three of those teams will need to lose twice. There's no effing way that Florida is going to lose two games this year. So, that both Texas and USC will have to lose twice. USC losing twice is certainly a possibility, but as with Florida, there's no effing way that Texas will lose two games this year.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”
