  • I see Te'o is second on ND's depth chart

I still wonder how this will pan out for the kid.

I'm glad ND guaranteed he'd start for them. Bronco was such a fool for not doing that.

LOL, I sure hope Bauman makes some people eat their words. I will have to eat my, nodding yes in agreement, as they said those words.

Call me crazy, but as one who has had plenty to say about Bauman, I'm not concerned.

Didn't he go to ND because he was going to start??

If true this makes me chuckle... Just goes to show that coaches will do or say anything to get you there.. OR Te'o used that as a lame excuse after he got busted...

                I hope so, too.

I thought the issue was that Bronco flat out told him he wouldn't start, rather than just telling him he would have to earn his spot. Stupid thing to do, if it's true.

no way he told him that, but I'm sure he made it crystal clear he'd have to earn first chair rather than have it handed to him, which I'm sure is what Manti expected to get in exchange for eschewing the "big time" schools to play for the lowly cougars.

I am convinced that Bronco said that "we are not promising you a starting position, but if you can prove that playing you gives us the best chance to win games you will start."

Then the kid had his little mishap and Bronco threw down the take a semester off and report in January line. The kid told Bronco to stick it where the sun don't shine. Then Bronco did the stupidest thing he has done throughout the incident which was to talk about the kid at this point and answer the question about starting, and either Bronco answered it in a way or the reporter reported it in a way that made it look like the kid expected to start. My guess is Bronco chose to word it that way because it would be consistent with his personal distaste of coddled athletes.

What we learn from this...Teo probably does have an ego and expected some sort of special treatment and that Mendenhall has yet to experience enough beatdowns from more athletic teams to figure out that lying to an 18 year old kid is OK to do while recruiting the athlete. Mendenhall also is not real good at PR, but I think we knew that before.
