  • Exercise vs sickness diet

I have a titch bit of bronchitis perhaps aggravated a teensy bit by wondering for a week why the usual asthma stuff didn't make breathing easier. Feeling better today, I noticed that my sick diet (the only things that have sounded good the last while) of lots of french fries and other crappy food is no longer appealing, and my usual relatively healthy diet that was so unappealing last week sounds good again.

I'm just curious whether this happens to anyone else, or am I just a freak on this front as well?

I'm the same way. If I'm feeling crappy, I eat all the tasty but unhealthy foods.
    Not that, sickos.

First trimester of pregnancy is usually a difficult time for me in terms of healthy eating. With my daughter, even water was gross. Broccoli made me gag.
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

Are you suggesting BBB go pee on a stick?

I think one reason we gravitate towards those types of foods is because they are easy. When I am sick I don't feel like cooking or making a huge spread. The other reason is my taste is so off, usually because my nose is messed up, that I need something like those foods that have something I can actually taste.

          This could be a factor.

I did have to go to the grocery store for ice cream and drag my butt to my car for the drive-thru instead of throwing fruit in the blender or slapping together a sandwich. I'm going to guess it's more of the taste issue, but I'm not sure. I have noticed I wanted more of a blend yesterday as I started to feel better.

Another thing for me is the comfort factor. When you get that western bacon cheeseburger combo meal from Carl's Jr. you know exactly what you're getting. Sounds disgusting (I broke down and ate one in Utah last month - one of two fast food burgers I have eaten since April 1), but there is something comforting in that.

I'm sorry - these two words, combined with Soup's avatar and my mild dyslexia, have had me in stitches for a few minutes.

To answer your question, though, I crave junk when I am sick too. I don't know if there is a physiological reason for that, though.
Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.
