  • Pete Carroll on Open Practices

Got my Rips-It eBlast from Coach Pete today, explaining his open practice policy--combined with noting the IDs of everyone at practice. The only practice that is closed is the final Friday walkthrough before their first game vs Sacrificial Lamb San Jose State.

    Why are practices so open?

Coach Carroll likes having open practices because it gives what could be a mundane set of drills a game-like feel. Coaches believe players perform at a high level when they know they have an audience. "If we're going to play in front of a lot of people, we should practice in front of a lot of people," Carroll says.

    Why are they checking IDs?

Football office staffers are usually the bouncers at the practice field gates, standing at the door to Howard Jones field checking picture IDs and marking down the names of people who attend. It's all for security purposes, just so the football staff can keep track of who's coming and ensure that agents and their runners are staying away from the practice field and the Trojan players.

    Misc notes:

    3. Yeah, I know Corp was named the starting QB, but Barkley has the stronger arm, and lots of trust from his teammates. I think his age worked against him, and I look for him to be inserted as soon as Corp falters.

    4. Here's the team playing kickball. I hope BYU's players are just as cut after summer weight training.

Pic of Shiloah Teo. You will notice the military haircut and dogtags, SGT Omer takes his boys to boot camp!

        Howard Jones Field?

I bet practice is fun with Pearl In The Shell blasting through the sound system.

Just to reiterate falafel's point, this is why I will be checking into a clinic this week. Thanks a lot for the reminder.

I don't know, but if USC fielded a kick ball team, I don't think these guys would get it out of the infield, judging by this picture.

It really pisses me off when people photoshop their head to a picture of my body.

Sorry but Teo is nowhere near as big and cut as those guys.

Second very few teams in the country have guys that big and cut, half of them were probably not too much smaller than that coming out of high school. That's why they're at USC. Matured early.

Third, don't count out the probability of 'roids, Mexico isn't too far from L.A.

You realize, don't you, that Omer had nothing to do with Shiloah's transformation? He went to a clinic in Arizona.
