  • Idaho State?

where the devil is Idaho State?

I tell you what, you Cougars better represent this season, because in order to schedule y'all we picked up the Mighty Bengals of the third-tier of the div-II Big Sky Conference.

Oh, well. On the bright side, at least we'll have finally defeated a team from potatoland!

Pocatello...about 2.5 to 3 hours North of Salt Lake.

Basically it's a piece of poo.

It's only a few minutes from the Goatnapper compound.

I lived in Pocatello for 3 years. I would disagree with the poo comment.

I don't want to make you nervous, but I think the Utes lost to a Big SKy team at home while back. I don't think it was Idaho St. though.

              IIRC Idaho in 1992

yeah, but that's around the time OU lost to a no-name school in the Copper Bowl, so that hardly counts for anything.

Besides, that's why I specified a "third tier" Big Sky school. UMontana has won the Div II national title twice. It wouldn't be so pathetic to have them on the schedule. On the other hand, they're far too Appalachian State for us to ever schedule them.

Yeah they are in the WAC now, and we know how Oklahoma handles WAC teams. You should be safe with ISU Babs.

See, that's what I'm thinking. At least we'll be able to say we finally took down a team from Idaho.

Sir...you are talking to a Bengal!

That's right, I'm a proud alum of ISU. And we're NOT Division II, dammit, we're 1-AA (or FCS if you insist). Our proud tradition has given the world the likes of Merrill Hoge, Marvin Lewis (Cincinnati Bengals head coach), Jared Allen, William "Grissom" Petersen (who had a football scholarship at ISU), and Matt Gutierrez (released just today by the NE Patriots).

We play our home games in Holt Arena (formerly the MiniDome), the first covered football stadium to be built on any college campus.

In 1981 we took the 1-AA world by storm and won the National Championship behind the rocket arm of Mike Machurek and the golden foot of Case deBruijn. I went to every home game with my Pops that year, including a 50-24 thrashing of Utah State. (YOU SUCK AGGIES!)

And this year, we got ourselves a brand new video scoreboard, which I think you'll agree is not...too...shabby.

So try and show some respect, or we may have to go all Appalachian State on your ass, and you don't want that.

(But seriously, thanks for the game. We've gotta pay for that new scoreboard somehow).

I believe Whittinham's first DC job was with the Bengals.

That's about what it came down to. We had to pick up a game, but there was nobody left with any openings. So I think we put the word out to Div FCS and took bids.

You know they're only charging $49 for tickets? I can't remember the last time we had a home game for less than sixty bucks a ticket.

$49 at an ISU home game will get a family of 6 seats on the 50 yard line, including a hot dog, drink and popcorn for each. And most likely, they will bring you on the field and honor you at halftime for your generous contribution to the program.
