  • Games of the Year

Sportsbook.com has posted the following lines for BYU games this year:

    BYU -3 vs Florida State
    BYU -10 at UNLV
    BYU -3 vs TCU
    BYU -7 vs Utah

I really doubt BYU will cover the spread in any of these games. What do you think?

No idear. Perhaps the UNLV game won't be that close.

I think they cover for FSU and TCU. I don't know enough about UNLV to make and educated guess. If I was a gambling man, I would lay big money on Utah if that line jumped another .5 point. I don't think they will win by a touchdown. I know there is no way they win by more than a touchdown.

BYU will go 2-2 ATS if those lines hold. They'll definitely beat FSU by 3+, and I think they lose to Utah, but if they win it will be by less than 7.

-10 at Vegas seems pretty big considering how tight the Rebels played BYU in Provo last year, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Cougars cover. And the game against the Frogs will be a barnburner, but I could see it going either way.

FSU has a ton of team speed and I think BYU will struggle to score. I don't think BYU can make up the talent deficit against TCU. I came away from last years game believing BYU could play them 10 more times and not beat them once. BYU and Utah are similar in talent (with Utah getting the slight edge) so that game could go either way. I think Utah was better than BYU last year, but the difference wasn't as great as the score of the game would seem to indicate. Regardless, I can't see BYU ever beating Utah by more than 7. I would give my left nut to have Utah's defense and both nuts for TCU's defense.

dumb question. what does the - mean?
            byu -3 vs fsu.
that = fsu by 3 points?
utah a TD over byu? that has to be the other way around.....

            help.

BYU is favored in each of those game. The minus indicates that and the number of points obviously speak for themselves.

well...is unlv the strongest or weakest of those 4 teams?
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

And BTW, those lines look about right to me, though I would give BYU more points against FSU. As we sit here the TCU and Utah games look like coin flips to me. The problem I have with handicapping anything Utah related is that QB is such an immense question mark. If the QB is average or better, I think the defense and the running game will make Utah very competitive in all their games, but if it turns out we don't have anyone back there who at least doesn't turn it over it could be a long year. I'll get back to you after the first two weeks on that question.

                    Meaning -1 or -2?

Yeah I sort of had a point and half in mind, so yes.

                        but why -?
I would think it would be
                        byu+3 over fsu
                        byu +10 at UNLV

i've also seen lines w/ +, so that's what confusing....

Take BYU's score, subract 3 and compare to Florida State's score.

Are you serious, they set lines for November games in July?

Every year at the end of the season, people look back at the preseason poll and are astounded at how far off base the voters were. I can't imagine placing a wager on a week 12 game in July.

Mu understanding is that the spread is based on the home team. If BYU is plus, for a home game, it means they are favored by that many points. If they are minus, it means they are underdogs by that many points.

If BYU is the away team, it is reversed. If they are minus is means they are favored by that many points, if they are plus it means they are underdogs by that many points.

But I'm not a person who bets much, I only look at spreads and general predictions, so I may be wrong.
