For my 1,000th post, I thought I'd discuss my weight loss efforts.
Several years ago, I was involved in a fitness challenge where I went from 240 to 205. I was easily in the best shape of my life and, not being married or having anything else going on, it was my singular focus. Fastforward a couple of years and I've put all of that weight back on and then some.
When I was growing up I remember how weird/odd/remarkable I thought it was that my dad got up early every morning to work out. Now that I have a family of my own and demands on my time, I understand it a lot better. With a history of heart trouble in my family, and people having heart attacks younger and younger, I decided that enough was enough.
The result has been a program that I started last week that I call 30 by 30. The only significance of the name is that it is my goal to lose 30 pounds by the time I turn 30 in November. Other than that, it's nothing special.
Last week I started the program by getting up at 5:30 every morning Monday through Saturday and walking about 1.5 miles. At the end of my walk, I ran up the steady incline hill behind my house to get a good heart rate going to finish things off.
This week I have upped my walk to 2 miles with a run up the hill at the end.
I plan to continue this until I'm going for an hour each morning and hope that with this new routine and some changes to my diet, I can achieve my goal by early November.
