For my 1,000th post, I thought I'd discuss my weight loss efforts.

Several years ago, I was involved in a fitness challenge where I went from 240 to 205. I was easily in the best shape of my life and, not being married or having anything else going on, it was my singular focus. Fastforward a couple of years and I've put all of that weight back on and then some.

When I was growing up I remember how weird/odd/remarkable I thought it was that my dad got up early every morning to work out. Now that I have a family of my own and demands on my time, I understand it a lot better. With a history of heart trouble in my family, and people having heart attacks younger and younger, I decided that enough was enough.

The result has been a program that I started last week that I call 30 by 30. The only significance of the name is that it is my goal to lose 30 pounds by the time I turn 30 in November. Other than that, it's nothing special.

Last week I started the program by getting up at 5:30 every morning Monday through Saturday and walking about 1.5 miles. At the end of my walk, I ran up the steady incline hill behind my house to get a good heart rate going to finish things off.

This week I have upped my walk to 2 miles with a run up the hill at the end.

I plan to continue this until I'm going for an hour each morning and hope that with this new routine and some changes to my diet, I can achieve my goal by early November.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

    welcome to the dark side.........

That is great. Good luck to you on your goals. And if you want to hit that 30, no faster way to do it than by altering your diet immediately. Every calorie adds up quickly.

post here often about your progress (or lack thereof) and give in to the beneficial powers of positive peer pressure.
    Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

      Will do.

I officially started my efforts in the 256-258 neighborhood, so I'm shooting for somewhere in the mid 220s as a goal weight for now.

CUF has become a real resource for fitness and motivation. I think all of the changes everyone is making here is fantastic. Good luck to you Drum.

As to your walk in the morning, I actually read a study awhile back that suggested that getting your HR up at the beginning of the workout was more beneficial than for those that finished strong. Your mentioning of running the last bit of your walk brought this to mind. IIRC, testers were put on treadmills with different programs. One that started slow and built up and the other after a brief warm up pushed the intensity and then the tempo slowly decreased.

I'll have to try and find that.
