I heard a bunch of sirens going up the Provo canyon today as I set out on a lunchtime ride. As I went past Timpanogos park on the parkway, I saw a police car and motorcycles over by the diversion dam. A couple of bikers who were on the bridge looking into the water told me that an 8-year old girl had fallen into the Provo river at Bridal Veil Falls about 20 min. earlier, and they were watching to see if they could see her come through.
I continued up the trail, scanning the river as I went, seeing rescue people every so often. A life flight helicopter landed in the Canyon Glen parking lot just about the time I went by.
Above Canyon Glen, a couple hundred yards below Nunns Park, I saw an ambulance in the middle of the parkway. I went around the ambulance, and there was the little girl, on a gurney, surrounded by about 8 rescuers, cops, emts, etc. She was blue and unresponsive, and they were doing chest compressions and readying IVs. It was really sad.
I chatted for a few minutes with a lady bystander. She said she'd been near the river at Nunns Park, and had actually seen the girl float by face down, not that far away, but she didn't realize at first what she saw, and then was too late to do anything.
She said a couple of bikers on the trail noticed the girl trapped against or under a rock in the river, and rescuers pulled her out. Last I heard, she's in extremely critical condition at Primary Children's Medical Center.

Please really careful with your kids. The water is really fast and really cold.
