  • Snapping/Popping Hip?

My right hip has started to pop on the outside with every step. Did some research on it. It's not painful. Just kind of annoying. Much more pronounced today than it has been in days past. I was going to run yesterday but played tennis and hit a jumbo bucket of balls (140) at the range yesterday instead thinking that the rest may do it some good. But it's worse now. Trying to stretch more and ran on the opposite side of the street I normally do thinking the crown in the road may be contributing to it and stretching more. Thought maybe it would help. Anyone else dealt with this?

I don't know if this is the same thing I dealt with, but when my hip got really sore when I tried to run, I ended up just walking for a couple of weeks.

When I started jogging again, I took it really easy, probably too easy, but so far it hasn't really flared up again

I may be small, but I'm slow.

That's what was happening to me just before it got sore, then I kept running on it and my knee finally started hurting as well. Mine has been my IT band.

That has IT band syndrome written all over it. Its typically better to have hip symptoms than knee symptoms, but still something that deserves some attention.

Have you tried running with it hanging to the left? It could help

Also, fwiw, I am pretty sure my ITBS is related to running on the road/asphalt running path with a crown to it. When I first started running, I was just running on the sidewalk and never really had a problem other than some tendinitis in my foot which was more to do with overtraining, but as soon as I started running on asphalt after being told it is much easier on your legs, I have had ITBS and bursitis. I think I am going to go back to running on the sidewalks.

You got iritible bowel syndrome from running on asphalt? I'll remember that in the future.

Sure, NOW you want to take it back and make up some other, more plausibly related condition. Sure.

I've found this to be true in my case as well. I haven't had the hip/knee problems since moving to the sidewalk. I was running on a roads with a fairly high crown ( 18 inches or more in some cases )

Thanks for the feedback. I really wanted to get out and run today but the thunderstorm kept me from getting to it. However, the rest will probably do my hip some good. Thanks also for that link scall with that stretch. I'll start doing that before and after my runs. I got on the stationary bike today and did 65 minutes. Hip is still popping some. But it still doesn't hurt which is good. More of an annoyance at this point than anything else.
